Ys Seven is the first entry in the long-running series to feature a variety of features and mechanics that have become a staple of the series, such as a bigger focus on the story and the party mechanic. While the renewed focus on story slows down the pace a bit, especially with its slow first few hours, the game's fast-paced combat system, engaging dungeon exploration, and fun boss battles make Ys Seven one of the best action role-playing games released in years. With some technical enhancements and a 60 FPS frame rate, the PC version is the definitive edition of Falcom's excellent RPG.

More Than a Little Grindy

Another great Action-Adventure in the series! At first, I'd worried about the party-based combat, because in games like this, the AI can be pretty stupid, and it is, but they very rarely get hit for some reason. Boss fights are intense, and the combat is fun in general. There's a neat skill learning mechanic reminiscent of Final Fantasy 9, but with how long they all take to master and how many there are, they got REALLY carried away with it. Seriously, I put almost 90 hours into this game that could easily have been just 20-40 at most. Lots of cool environments, though, and while the music is hit or miss, I'll definitely be adding some of it to my collection. If you like Ys, this is definitely worth your while.

Walk Before You Run

The first of the party-based Ys games, Ys Seven isn't bad. . . but it could be better. Note that "not bad but could be better" is by Falcom standards- should you play it? Absolutely! But it very much feels like the rough draft for the later, much better, Ys VIII.

Alot like Tales Of Symphonia

The way you can synthesize equipment and weapons, The Battle system, And the overall storyline/ gameplay reminded me alot of Tales Of Symphonia. 5 out of 5, Would reccomend

It all begins here....

Once again, I have to say I absolutely loved another game from the Ys franchise. And while it is not the absolute best of the best, it is right up there with it. In fact you can clearly see a lot of what made Memories of Celceta so great got it's start here. Yes, that game balanced it out better, but the formula was great from the start and I can only hope to see more of this as we go on. Another phenomenal game in the series!

A good, fairly typical JRPG

If you're in the mood for a good, classic JRPG, then this game is a good choice. Although the story is quite classic at the outset, as the game progresses all the details surrounding the legend of the island make it all quite interesting. It's all logical and ties together nicely. What's more, there are a few twists that I wasn't expecting at all. I knew it was an old game, but my first impression was that the graphics were a bit disappointing. However, if you look around on the Internet you'll find an unofficial pack of HD textures. It's very easy to install and the game looks much better with that! There are way too many cutscenes in this game! It's downright irritating! What's more, they're "interactive" (you have to press a button to advance the discussion). Tip: you can hold down the button to fast-forward. The game's bosses are spectacular, but I don't like the fact that there's no strategy for beating them cleanly. You're bound to get hit a few times, and in the end it's more a case of brute force than having fun outclassing your opponent with your skills. Also, bosses can take like 20 minutes to defeat. Anyway, I spent 30 hours finishing this game. So yeah, there's definitely some great fun to have with it.
