This game was quite boring at the start, got better during the middle, but wasn't anything spectacular when finished.
The gameplay was mediocre., the puzzles as well; the characters were quite cliched.
If you get it cheap, buy it and play it, if you don't mind "wasting" a few hours.
I guess the best way to describe this game is ''mediocre''.
It's a well-made point-and-click adventure in the sense that it runs well, its puzzles are sufficient, and it's not too long.
The glue holding this thing together is the mystery adventure, yet it is quite predictable, and the characters come off as cardboard cutouts of tired archetypes – the amnesiac hero, the evil mastermind and his evil goon.
The story's only saving grace is the incorporation of alchemy as a plot device, which I know nothing about, so to me it was something refreshing in an otherwise mostly boring experience.
If anything, this game reminded me a lot of that old browser game ''Steppenwolf: The X-Creatures Project'', so if you've ever played that and want to play something similar, I would recommend you get this on sale. If not, then go play Steppenwolf; it's free.
Pendulo Studios usually, in my experience, makes games that are very child friendly, games with a low level of violence. This game is different. There are several characters in this game that can best be described as psychopaths.
While there is another game by Pendulo Studios where you, while trapped by the main villain sitting in the next room, can litterally walk into a room with a wall covered with weapons and the character's saying a line about being a pacifist when you try to pick them up... This isn't how this game works. Be prepared for violence.
This is an adventure game, a point and click game, but it has a darker story. After playing it some time ago I decided that I don't want to return to it. Scary stuff just isn't for me.
Looking at the game page here it's recommended from 16 years. I recommend that you don't play it if you are younger or if you can't stand too much violence/terror in a game. As mentioned, many characters in it are pure psychopaths and acts accordingly.
Pendulo Studios have several other point and click adventure games out there for those who prefer games without violence. This feels like the game the developers used as an outlet for all the stuff they couldn't put into the other games since it would make them too scary/violent.
It is an okay game of it's type, and I give it an extra star since it isn't "tame" by restricting it's content to follow any norms that society may have. Art/games shouldn't be restricted in that way, so when games break away from that they deserve some extra credit.
Superb story with a great twist. Puzzles are interesting and thoughtful. One downside is the inventory which can be very annoying when you trying to grab something but that is a minor complaint.
