Entertaining but ...
The idea of the game, the combat and story are interesting indeed but after finishing the game I felt that much of the potential was still not tapped. A good example is the economy, or a sad joke of it. It is based on a complete randomness and you cannot reliably obtain any more valuable gadgets or ores. One could of course pop in and out to the village to rattle the RNG but it is just boring. Essentially you need to live of the land so to say. The story in general is actually rather linear only with the expansion making providing for some mild diversity. The game introduces some interesting mechanics with luck, blessings and traits but the way it is done it is hard to see through and it is by far not intuitive. If you think there is some yagpedia you will be sorely disappointed. The online guides are also not common and rather poor. I also did not appreciate much the system of choices between the righteous, greedy, fool and aggressive. These have a major impact on the ending and if you are naive, all good tooshie as I am you will be robbed from, in my opinion, the best ending. Sad face... Anyway. The thing I enjoyed a lot was the combat. It is dynamic, diverse and sometimes really fast. Music is also well selected. Even if maps are somewhat simple I still did not reach the point where the combat would be just boring. For me and my limited patience it is a huge bonus. On top of that the ability to fiddle around the hammer properties just spices up the whole experience. Great job! On the bad side, the secondary tool/weapon is essentially hmm useless, too cumbersome to use, in my option. Finally, if you die you can be immediately reanimated but mostly in cost of gadgets and weapon ot just try again from the start. A nice toutch indeed. All in all a good fun to grab if at discounted price.
