You are in control of X-COM: an organization formed by the world's governments to fight the ever-increasing alien menace.

  • Command deadly close-combat battles 
  • Shooting down UFOs is just the beginning: you must then lead a squad of heavily-armed soldiers across different terrains as they investigate the UFO crash site. Tackle the aliens with automatic rifles, rocket launchers, and even tanks in the struggle to retrieve useful technology, weapons or life forms. 
  • Research and manufacture alien technologies 
  • Successful ground assault missions will allow X-COM scientists to analyze alien items. Each new breakthrough brings you a little closer to understanding the technology and culture of the alien races. Once you have sufficient research data on the UFO's superior weapons and crafts, you'll be able to manufacture weapons of equal capability. 
  • Develop a strategy to save the Earth 
  • You must make every crucial decision as you combat the powerful alien forces. But you'll also need to watch the world political situation: governments may be forced into secret pacts with the aliens and then begin to reduce X-COM funding.

NOT AS ADVERTISED

This is listed as and installs with the "Ufo Defense" icon, but that is NOT what this is. It is actually "Enemy Unknown". "UD" is the buggy CD version which I still own, and "EU" is the original extremely buggy FLOPPY DISK VERSION. I purchased this hoping I wouldn't have to go through the drive mounting and and other tedious steps to get my cd version working in dosbox, and needless to say, I was disappointed. Not a good move GOG. If you were selling this version, you should have said so.

Doesn't start

I have spent hundreds of hours playing this game in my youth, and i had a magical time. My one star is for GOG version which doesn't run. Avoid.

Unimpressed

Doesn't work in DOS, doesn't work in Wine, and it doesn't seem to be playable without this strange "GOG Galaxy" thing.

It is not what I wanted

I am really disappointed from this game. I bought it, because I´d like to get the good old time back, when I loved to play this game on my Amiga. But it is NOT, what I know. It is a kind of a scrappy poor copy of the Amiga game. Graphics and sounds are terrible. I want my money back :-( In this case: good old times will never come back. (I also tried the openXcom mods, but they are not as good, as it was written from other customers) Better enjoy other games here on gog.com
