Cute, charming, and not a whole lot.
Wuppo is a game that illusions a large map, but most of the progression is both linear and gated. Once you go though an area and solve the major issue (if any), you have little to no need to ever return. It's the sort of thing where they could have divided it into distinct levels and nothing would have been lost. And in fact, many of the areas are separated as levels would be, with sudden jarring changes of atmosphere, scenery, coloration, and a small caption in the corner. The story in a gist is that you've been thrown out of your comfortable life in a gentrified slum by your slumlord because you made a mess of things for the nth time, now it's up to your guile and wit to actually do something. I don't know what kind of games the developers played while growing up, but quite simply the controls are bizarre and will require some getting used to, as not only is the jump relegated to the right shoulder, but there's no centralized menu in spite of it nearly being there. And in fact, that's how I'd speak of the game. A lot of mechanics and ideas that are "nearly there" but never got their final pass, in spite of this, the alleged definitive edition. The controls could be streamlined, the platforming physics improved, the combat made less bad, and the overall feedback from the game a lot less obtuse. Ultimately, like this review system it follows a system of arbitrary limitations instead of fully spreading it's wings. I was expecting something more expansive and dropped it when I realized I was already at the final area after what felt like no real progress.
