I really want to be able to like this game, but that's kind of impossible at the moment. For some reason I was able to run it with some speed mods, but then out of nowhere, it just can't even launch. Something similar happened to my friend, so I can say with some confidence that it is not all that rare of an issue. Unless they somehow fix it, which I'm not going to hold my breath over, I really can't recommend this one.
And it's really unfortunate because I wanted to tell a spaceship to go fuck itself.
I really wish I could play this game but unfortunately I have a problem of not being able to move forward or backwards in game. Everything else works fine including turning left and right.
Occasionally I start to move a bit but then I get stuck again, so to speak. I restart the game and sometimes I can move a bit but I always get stuck again. I've seen this problem in a lot of forum discussions but I haven't found a solution that works at all. I hope a fix can be found since I really want to play this.
I can comment on what little I have played in the meantime. The character creation was fun and engaging. I love character creation so it appealed to me but I can understand if it isn't for everyone. I like the fast turn based combat, at least with the three crabs I fought. The graphics and audio are very good considering that it's a twenty year old game.
If someone makes a mod to fix the problem I have with not being able to move, I'm sure I'll have hours of DnD style exploration fun.
It could have been done better. The story is decent but not too interesting and there is really too much fighting. However I'm not bothered by it because the main focus of this game, in my opinion, is the creation of a party of characters to see how they fare.
Character creation is fun and leveling up is rewarding; at the beginning you'll have an hard time surviving because the spawns aren't really leveled. There are areas of the game in which you can't survive if you aren't powerful enough. Quick save and quick load are a must at the beginning, because if your most powerful spell fizzles on certain fights, you are pretty much screwed. Kinda gamey, yet i like evolving my PCs so I don't mind.
Interactions with NPCs aren't the best part of the game for sure. If you play it like some sort of hack and slash with some RpG elements you'll do fine, but if you expect a real RpG you will be quite disappointed.
