i really enjoy the atmosphere of this game, the graphics, the gameplay, the stats, the thinking to prepare the party and the planning to distribute stats points, the story, the tactical combats in hard mode (i didn't even try normal, it seems the rules for > difficulty is only the fact that ennemies will do more damage, and that you don't fully heal on level up, which is fine by me.
Granted, some points in the game system are not clear (how does luck affect loot, for instance, and some other stuff, but it's not really disturbing for the gameplay)
And the price is ok for me (about 40€ plus some refund for more games after, my enjoyment agrees)
I pledge for torment after buying this, and i'll pre buy / pre order pillars of eternity too.
i'm a bit tired with current AAA games which are not really interesting, after spending about 25 years of playing. I needed that, thank you again gog :) (yes and thx gog, i prefer you on steam :) )
Wasteland 2 doesn't immediately grab you, but stick with it and you'll have an incredible experience.
Yes, the camera controls can be annoying at times, and multiple skill use to open every single crate is grindy, but they're small issues in the greater scheme of the game.
After the first 5 hours of so, the game starts to open up and you begin to see its strengths. Mood and setting that really creep up on you until you realise you're neck deep in the Wasteland universe and loving it; interesting and diverse NPCs and companions with active participation in the story; complex, twisting story line with detective overtones that will keep you wondering what's around the next radiated sand hill; combat that is functional at worst, downright enjoyable at higher levels; several mechanics and plot devices that are quite innovative and unique, which is excellent; loads of plot puzzles that can't be solved straight away, but percolate at the back of your mind as you travel the wasteland enforcing ranger justice.
Some may not realise that Wasteland 2 actually plays very similarly to Wasteland 1, notwithstanding the updated graphics. I really appreciate that they haven't just tried to make Fallout 3. Some of the game's quirks can be more appreciated and enjoyed if understood in this context.
Wasteland 2 is a classic. inXile continue to put out patches addressing remaining issues people have. I have no doubt it will be listed among the must-play RPGs in the future.
So take your time. Enjoy the universe. Keep a journal next to your computer to make notes and keep plot points. Play the game how these older style RPGs are supposed to be played. You won't regret the time invested.
I'm not really into turn-based strategy games, but my curiosity was peaked by the environment and setting so I decided to give it a try, and am I ever glad I did. It's just the right amount of game time, has just enough story to keep you wanting to play, has well developed characters, and best of all, has one ending but plenty of different ways to get there. Take your time, because the ending displays how things wrap up because of some of the decisions you make along the way. The negative reviews are just nonsense. If you miss this game because of them, you'll have missed something special. Take a look at this teaser if you're sitting on the fence... https://youtu.be/ehtNGrWHkO8
This game does everything right from character creation to end game satisfaction. You don't even min/max your characters to enjoy the game and this lets you play the game anyway you want. There is no one correct way to do your quests. You can play the game with a solo character or 7 character squad plus robot/animal followers. You can go full dumb melee characters or with a full scientist team.
