When the stone Tears of Heaven, Navarre and Lucifus, fell from the sky, their appearance changed the world. Navarre, the white tear, had a life-giving power while Lucifus sowed death and destruction. Fantastic RTS game

I am more a TBS player but this game is quite good even if you are not too god with RTS games. The pause feature helps a lot so your units do what you really want. The game is centered around your hero, who gets experience at the end of the maps and can upgrade his base stats, skills or spells. In the campaing, only human hero can be selected but in the skirmish maps you can select a hero from almost any race (there are no barbarian heroes). Every skills has a purpose and are equally useful. It is best to improve training first so you can get more XP and more Ability Points. Mage heroes need to add a ton of points in magery, magic schools spells (to unlock), even then, mana regeneration is a bit slow, so, it's best to start with a warrior or rogue type hero first. There are tons of units and buildings, some factions really play different (undead transform his skeletons to more powerful units, orcs don't get armor upgrades and can't repair buldings) so the gameplay never gets really repetitive. I finished the campaing two times and it's pretty lenghty. You can choose after the second episode the path of light or path of darkness. In the first, you play the dwarfs and wood elves and in the second you play orcs and undead. It's best to decide one path, because if you go back to the other path, you don't play with your level 15 hero but with a low level stored version. Highly recommended, i will play some more time and then get the second part.

Awesome game, replaying every year!

Alright, this game takes me back to 2002, first PC and I just started buying gaming magazines, one of which includes this game as a gift CD. Having only played Age of Empires before this, I didn't know what to expect, but boy, never had I expected this much fun and countless hours spent with this gem, even 20 years later. Immersive world with plenty of playable races creates a strong atmosphere along with epic soundtrack. Story is strong, yet simple, it's mainly an RTS game afterall, but still you have a sense of purpose and pursue your quest. RPG aspect of the game is great. Your hero gets experience after battle and you get to choose from loads and loads of skills, perfect to tinker with your desired build. AI has different difficulty settings, from easy (knight), to a completely ruthless grand warlord who can still beat the sh*t out of me even after so many years. Campaign is long enough to keep you entertained over a weekend, and then there's skirmishes and multiplayer. Haven't checked the functionality of multiplayer, but the game itself runs smoothly on win10, no problem at all. Well done! I can recommend WBC2 and WBC3 as well, but this one will always be the best for me.

Harder than your average RTS

I played WBC3 quite some time ago, so I was interested in seeing what the predecessors were like. First some positives. There's a lot of different factions that all play differently, no mirror factions here. As such there are many different units, as well as many different Hero classes. The Hero progression of the series is one of the better implementations I've seen in an RTS, and the Retinue idea is pretty great as well. The major downside for me is that you can only play the campaign as Human to start. You get a bit of time with other races depending on which path you take, but much less time spent than humans. The gameplay is also pretty slow relative to other RTS games, I find myself getting bored slowly building up before really doing anything. Other things of note - while WBC is mostly stable, I have hit a couple crashes and a couple graphical glitches where the game screen goes black for a few seconds. Also, this might be just because I'm kind of bad with Humans, but this is possibly the most difficult campaign I've played. This game on Easy is at least as difficult as most of SC2 on Brutal.

可以一试,但续作更好。

呼啸战神。一部很好的结合rpg成分的rts作品。作为三部曲的开山作,很多设定和设计思路为后来的续作打下了坚实的基础。呼啸战神这个IP的游戏类型是rpg混合RTS。与后续的咒语力量不同的是,这两种元素的结合在呼啸战神里是均衡的。咒语力量则更侧重RPG部分。呼啸战神的成功也间接影响了魔兽争霸3的制作。 呼啸战神1有战役和遭遇站两种单机游戏模式。战役模式可以在开始阶段选择一名英雄来进行培养并出现在后续的每一场战役关卡中。英雄可以选职业并转职,每进行几关就可以给英雄分配技能点,英雄随着技能点的增长能力会逐渐增强。看着白板英雄一点点成长起来左右战局是这款游戏吸引人的关键。 繁多的区分度很高的种族设定,还有大量天差地别的天赋,技能,兵种。玩家可以通过漫长的战役塑造一位人类英雄,并在战役完成后保存这个英雄用于遭遇战地图。不过1代的一些设定并不成熟,很多问题是2代里面解决的。举个例子,1代的战役只能使用默认的人类,其他如亡灵,恶魔,精灵,矮人等种族都无法使用。所以战役通关后玩家只能得到一个强力的人类英雄,很多其他种族的使用体验只能去遭遇战里摸索。另外1代的战役打完就结束了,无法使用同一个英雄重新开始战役。2代的战役则完全是另一种设计思路,抛弃剧情塑造(1代的战役剧情能看出来有认真构思),直接给玩家一张大地图,然后将地图分割成不同的区域,由玩家选一个种族去征服整片大陆(倒是和三国志有异曲同工之妙)。这样设计的好处就是玩家用哪个种族玩战役都不违和,缺点就是战役剧情几乎等于没有。 说回1代。个人仅仅以人类的种族玩通了战役,没能通过遭遇战深入体会其他种族的精髓。整体的游戏体验到后期就有些乏味了。英雄的经验获取貌似是固定的,每两关升一级。升级分配点数来提升主属性,副属性,专长以及魔法。因为升级选项繁多,不同的加点会玩出不同的游戏体验。而且战役不同的关卡都有不同的任务安排,所以前中期的游戏体验还是很丰富的。但游戏后期的问题也不容忽视,就是有几场战场地图设计过大,一场战斗下来至少需要一小时,结算画面跳出时候只感到身心俱疲。这个弊病在2代被放大了,具体情况我会在2代的测评里深入评析一下。 游戏的操作方面有一些瑕疵,因为模型问题,鼠标点选时候经常因为混战时的模型重叠而无法选中目标。好在游戏有一个非常流弊的设计就是可以像生软早期的博德之门、冰风谷这些角色扮演游戏那样暂停游戏进程!这个设计虽然与即时战略的PVP理念背道而驰,但是对玩家的单机体验具有极大的提升。 这也是呼啸战神完美平衡了RTS和RPG元素的最佳佐证。即时战略过于强调快捷键的微操,高频切屏这些硬核设计反倒是提高了门槛,将休闲玩家拒之门外。大场面混战时,呼啸战神的一些技能施展需要用到组合快捷键,如果没有暂停功能那大部分技能都来不及使用。这里正好引申了我想谈的另一个设计: 游戏的AI设计。 呼啸战神的技能兵种可以预设行为,比如逃跑,防守,巡逻,好战等。特别是法师可以设定自动施法,这个设计我是多年后才在魔兽争霸3里遇到,可是呼啸战神1比魔兽争霸3早出了两三年。其实这个倒不是令我很惊讶,因为虽然呼啸战神早于魔兽3发行,但我当年首先接触的是魔兽3,所以也有些见怪不怪了。我对制作组感到敬佩的是兵营也可以预设行为,这样出兵的时候预设行为就直接套用了。不过AI的设计也有一些比较显著的问题。比如我如果在地图上唯一一个连接两个大陆的桥的一端用建筑把路堵死,敌人就会在桥上转圈圈而不是拆掉这个建筑物。而且有时候AI会作弊,比如会沿着迷雾边缘偷袭玩家的重要建筑物。会根据玩家的鼠标点选对象来做出行为动作,就是现在动作游戏常用的预读指令设计。迷雾实际上仅对玩家有效,AI从一开始就知道玩家的兵力,如果前期玩家把资源投入到科技上,AI就会趁玩家兵力薄弱的阶段大举进攻。所以有时候如何套路AI是玩家不得不思考的问题。 几点小补充:1代还有几关战役是海战,玩家可以占领船厂召唤战船和运输船。这个设计在2代被取消了,2代我玩了大半个地图都没有遇到海战的图。 游戏里还有一个有意思的点是建筑物会遮挡弹道。如果两军对射,中间有个建筑物,那么大部分投射物会撞到建筑物上,只有建筑物被摧毁后双方才会攻击到对方。 总的来说,呼啸战神1是一部具有诸多创意的RTS作品。但一些细节上的问题还亟待完善,所以如果满分是5分的话我可以给它3分。值得一玩,但因为这个IP有后续作品,如果你喜欢呼啸战神1展现出来的内容,可以把更多精力投入到2和3上门。

Great memories

MEMORY: Great strategy. I have great memories of the series: Warlords Battlecry. WARNING: I got it on discount. Tried to run it on Windows 10, Intel HD430/NVIDIA GF 1050TI. I couldn't get it to run in 2025 on this configuration sadly. I got a refund in my wallet within an hour on an Easter evening. Very impressed. I'll use my funds to get a modern game that'll run without tricks. You could probably get it to run on an older system, in VM with Windows XP or some other hack but I didn't feel like it. RECOMMENDATION: Get the game into GOG. Fix the resolution and crash issues and I'd be glad to get it again.
