solid addition, some bugs included
Void Shadows neatly expands the base game by fleshing out the Rogue Trader's ship into a more three-dimensional "being" rather than a simple location. This is accomplished by introducing five new crew members (such as an enforcer chief with S&M overtones, a suspiciously cheerful leader of maintenance or an oddly indifferent medical supervisor); new onboard locations (some of which can be accessed any time, while others are plot-specific); and a plot spanning from chapters one to four that'll take you about 15 hours to complete. The story is well-written and engaging, with enough decision-laden junctures to keep you invested throughout, and happens mostly onboard your ship (with one notable space battle exception). The new companion (Kibellah, a death cult assassin) is a fun addition as are the new melee-specific classes (Blade Dancer and Executioner). There's a slew of new equipment and at least two new events that happened on the expanse map (outside of the new plot); and the entire story can be picked up as late as chapter four (before you speak to the inquisitor and set off for worlds unknown). The only issues I had were an instance of my characters being unable to attack (though they could use other abilities) and a completely random CTD towards the end of the plot (no error message or anything). If you enjoyed the base game, Void Shadows integrates neatly into it with more content, a broader cast and fun little refinements (like being able to take a bath whenever you feel like it). It's not the "best DLC ever" but is a solid addition that delivers more of what the base game did well.
