I saw the game recently on sale and could not help buying it - I returned to Dungeon Keeper 1 and 2 so many times I lost track of it. First of all - this game really feels like DK. Unfortunately, it seem a bit overrated in the user reviews.
The good:
- the authors copied most themes from the DK series; if you played these older titles, you'll feel at home,
- nice graphics (although not jaw-dropping)
- several very nice and useful novelties: game mechanics (interface, moving your army etc.) and content (traps, creatures, spell, rituals etc.),
- large maps.
The bad:
- my system well exceeds the recommended requirements but the game works suprisingly slowly and glitches when there are many creatures displayed (suprising for the nice but not-so-very-good graphics),
- the game is suprisingly short!!! (it took me 8.5 h to finish it, and that was only because I wanted to explore everything; if someone wanted to pursue "time achievements" during campaing, he/she would finish the game in 3-4 h),
- where are the dark humour and silly jokes known from DK? (I know it's not a sequel actually, but I hoped for an atmosphere similar to DK 1 and 2).
Overall, I don't think I will be returning to this game, but it made me want to play DK 1 and 2 again ...
