Venom. Codename: Outbreak is a tactical 3D-shooter set in the near future. Your aim is to oppose an alien invasion on Earth and protect the human race from extermination while evil parasites continue turning people into mind-killing beasts. Together with a teammate, you play the role of an ex-Ukranian combat group member - and your primary goal is to progress through 14 action-packed single-player missions or play via multiplayer with your friends over a LAN connection.
The game-play involved is very close to the actions portrayed by a real-life task force and you will encounter well-guarded enemy bases, where the success of the whole operation is as much dependant on your ability to remain undetected, as your skill to take out the opponent with a single shot.
Your objectives will take place deep in an area containing dense Jungle growth; hilly terrains and large enemy complexes and you will often find that you are outnumbered, that your adversaries are extremely dangerous and that you will have to overcome many hazardous obstacles. However, this is what you do best, so pack-out, lockup and get ready for some action…

It's a good game in spite of its low-budget, and jank nature. I would recommend it to people who were brought up on late 90's early 2000's shooters. If you like STALKER, you'll feel at home though it's more of a mission based type of squad shooter.
The game demands from you to be slow methodical, and some moments feel repetitive but this the quintessential 2000 shooter. It reminds me a bit of Project IGI with a STALKER vibe. The voice acting is well, they're Ukrainians, and definitely developers or family members gave voices to the game.
played it back in 2001 or 2002 and just loved it then bacause it was one of the first open-world fps games i stumbled upon. think far cry here: venom let you explore the open map from a vantage point and choose the approach route and combat tactics best suitable for you and really tries to deliver a story, not just a couple of hours of midless shooting. those who like fast-paces corridor shooters probably disliked this game, but i loved it even despite some ai glitches. of course it looks much dated today and probably not worth your time and money but…
ok. someone could say its too much to give 5 stars to this game. maybe it is. because it has its ills. for example there is no slightest sign of ballistic model as for light weapons bullets. even when you are snippering from maximum distance you are able to see enemy by gunsight monocular, it enough when you press trigger when spot of the center of gunsight merges with pixel representing head of distant soldier and he always dies.
second thing to mention - unspotted enemies doesnt realy moves thru complexes nad locations. enemies can run out of short dead end corridor which you checked before and was empty.. so enemies are spawning and they do it stupidly.
so why 5 stars? simply, im not much into 3d shooters nor just person usually to finish games.. this one is one of VERY rare cases and i finished it even 2 times. game is not overcomplicated regarding controls and was simply funny for me.
fun, its the main and the most essential component in any game, isnt it? :-)
Yep, it works, but with tonns of graphical artifacts, disappeared texture etc.
But game was is so cool when i play it in 2002, i just wanna get some nostalgy emotions.
1 star for optimization. (But anyway, my CD version works only on Windows XP (Service Pack 2) or earlyer.
5 stars for game.
Average 3 stars.
PS: i got refund.
Codename Outbreak is sometimes called "proto-Stalker", although those games have not much in common. Probably backpack management is the bigest similarity.
Here you play as kind of spec-ops operator, doing various tasks against people infected by extraterrestrial parasite and later, more mature version of those ant-like aliens. You aren't doing stuff alone tho, because you have AI-controled companion, of which you can take control in any moment, especially when it carry weaponor item you need (or it stuck in weird place).
Good thing is every mission is unique: you have to break into chemical plant and disarm explosives or find hidden military base and set up airstrike marker or infiltrate reaserch center in order to rescue survived scientist, what makes game interesting for longer while.
Also, you have to plan your loadout for every mission - better suit, more powerful weapon, extra medkits and more ammo weigh a lot, so you have to choose. Yes, weapon - every firearm in basicly a multitasking tool - sniper rifle, assaault rifle, shotgun, minelayer and rocket launcher in one. Weird design, but it works somehow.
In addition, you need extra space for collecting various intel items, because maps are mostly free to explore. Thanks to that, your missions can be "more successful", so you gain more medals and few points more for charateristics.
For less bright side... Graphics and effects were already mediocre when it cames out. Levels are often composed from the same assets, so sometimes you feel weirdly familiar with some places.
Also you AI-controlled companion isnt the best shooter nor the best pathfinder. Luckily, you AI-controlled enemies (who aren't also very diverse) arent much better and tend to e.g. kill themself with grenade launcher.
Overall, its 4 stars game. It has has some technical deficiencies, but shows creativity and serious dedication from dev team to make someting interesting and standing out from other productions.
