To become death in Venetica is a calling, fulfilled by a man of flesh and blood – equipped with special supernatural skills in order to be able to carry out the duties of the office. A new death is selected regularly by “Corpus”, a secret council. This time however Corpus really makes a wrong decision: The “new” death, Victor, turns out to be a crazed necromancer who manages to turn himself into an overpowering undead with seedy tricks and dark rituals and thus attains almost unlimited power in addition to immortality. As it is strictly forbidden for the chosen death to devote himself to necromancy, the committee revokes Victor’s nomination immediately and declares a new death in his stead without delay.
The power-hungry Victor however does not want to relinquish his position again. He continues to practice the dark arts in order to gather numerous dark and dangerous creatures and tainted souls from the underworld around him. He thus succeeds in eliminating the newly designated death and takes over his power for his own purposes. The effects on the world’s balance are calamitous and – should Victor be able to keep himself in power – its dark consequences are irreversible. Only a person who has the same mighty powers as Victor can prevent his prevailing and vent him his deserved punishment.
Scarlett, the daughter of the real death does not know anything about her ancestry and the hidden talents which slumber within her. She is immersed suddenly in this story due to the brutal attack on her home village and the tragic loss of Benedict, the love of her life. It is a story which she now begins to write herself, a story during the course of which she unleashes her capabilities, a story in which she tries to save Benedict from the world of the dead and a story in which she must protect the world of the living from the dark threat posed by Victor and his henchmen.

PROS: The game has so much charm to it,the fact you can see your model on the loading screen based on what your wearing in game...it just hits that feeling of progression.
There is only a few armors in this game but are modeled on Scarlett and not just stat sticks.
There is 3 factions to join once you get to venice which is nice for rp purposes.
Honestly the charchters in the game were enjoyable and can see multiple runs being somewhat differnt depending on your dialouge options.
The combat while dated in a sense was still a fun time but there is obviously better weapons that others
CONS: Got a graphical bug multiple times where it would not load in the zone and it would just be black with objects floating (best way to fix is just go back to main menu of the game and then say cont should fix it.)
Game crashed many times as well luckily the saves never corrupted and such.
many audio bugs or graphical when a cutscene is happening you could see a enemy still attacking you they are not part of the scene(quite funny) and then other random people talking ever so often.
While I said combat is fun it can be annoying at times you can get stunlocked like crazy mad by multiple enemies and you just have to wait till end of their combo
GRIPE: No endgame status report kinda deal to show how your choices mattered and how it changed the area like during end credits. Not a deal breaker but wouldve been nice.
OVERALL: love the game it was so enjoyable to play and had a smile on my face whether it was dialogue you know was taken at differnt days because of mic quality or just a nostalgia trip. If you are hesitant to get it then wait for a sale, but if you are a fan of old rpgs like this do yourself a favor and play it already!!!
This game has one of the best level designs of all games I have played so far (user maps in UT2k4 aside). The story is great, too. It is a bit heavy on resources, though.
Another plus: one of the few games that features a heroine and does so without any attire. It feels just natural. Last hint: there is a mod for better textures out there. Although it weighs down even more on the resources, try to find it.
Well, gameplay is very linear most of the time (and where it isn't that much, quests/text tend to get slight probs dealing with non-linearity). And the endmonsters-parts are much to complicated (just like in Risen2), especially relative to overall qualities of the game design (a simple walkthrough and shopping in Italy adventure).
