In a single word, overrated

If you expect to play an RPG (like I did) you may be severely disappointed. Game mechanics are simplistic yet frustratingly nonsensical. As for the characters and story, I've detected none of the charm and good writing the other reviewers wrote about. Granted, I've played only about 2 hours. Maybe beyond that combat starts to make sense, there are no random map encounters and themes evolve from silliness, vague nostalgia and memes to something interesting... but I doubt it.

Wild journey

People will often bring up community when taking about this game, don't listen to them, they are fools who create nonexistent problems for themselves. Undertale is one of the best things that happened in this boring industry in a while, its charming, its clever, serious when it wants to be (and only then) and perhaps most imporantly - its doing things that are only possible in a video game. Telling too much would really spoil the fun, so if you can get past the graphics (but it does have its charm) do yourself a favor and get it!

Good fun, but not entirely perfect

For those who check my Lybrary and don't see the game there - that's merely becuase I own it over on Steam and just posting a review here to help spread my thoughs that no one has really discussed. First off, it's a fine game. A charming and cheeky little game with some Yume Nikki & Earthbound inspirations in tune and darker themes not entirely apperent from the start but very clear after the fact. You'll end up loving or just enjoying most of the characters and even the one off enemies. Even ones you dispise at first. The simple sprite graphics also just add to those feelings of a cute little adventure only to be subverted right at the end depending on which path you're doing Gameplay is rather basic, a mix of simple RPG actions and bullet hell. Nothing too complicated even late into the game aside from one Boss. Honestly I felt it should have had more. Now for the bad - You're only gonna get about three playthroughs max if you're gunning for all the endings, plus the small randomzed events each run. After that thre ain't much to do besides hunt for easter eggs. As well I can't help buy critize the games heavy handed message of Pasifism vs Attacking. Its very white and black and doesn't offer any grounds for discussion on the middle grounds; such as fighting in self defense. But that's likely a too serious and long winded discussion for a game this short. And if you get the bad ending, you'll have to reinstall the game or else you'll be stuck in an endless loop of still getting the bad end even if you did all good. This isn't a bug, it's an intended feature that's relevent to the Meta plot by the developer. I whole heartedly recommand it despite its handful of flaws. Maybe pick up the Switch version for the exclusive bonus boss if that bothers ya.

A game to keep in your heart

This game with simple graphics provided me one of the best experiences with art in my life. I almost didn't enjoy it because of spoilers and misinformation about it at the year it was released. But I'm so glad I gave it a second chance. It has great humor, great easter eggs, great emotional moments, it's extremely well written and has a soundtrack that's a masterpiece by itself. Toby Fox made every corner of it you explore satisfying. Plus it gave birth to great fan and original works that I can't even keep up with. Simply an unmissable game ❤️

Determined to make you smile

An RPG and bullet hell game. Help the fallen child escape the monster filled underground. The game is generally silly, light-hearted, full of quirky NPCs and humour, and I found it pretty funny overall. It's also very fond of meta gags, and there's a surprising amount of your actions it pays attention to, which makes interacting with its world interesting. The battle system involves the lone player character and your enemies taking turns to act, with you needing to complete short bullet hell segments to avoid enemy attacks and survive. Your actions boil down to attacking and killing your enemy, or subduing them mercifully, with the latter usually being a different kind of puzzle for each enemy you face. This is fittingly escalated to epic proportions during boss fights, thanks to the more intense attacks and music. The art style is retro inspired and quite charming too. I would recommend this overall, to those fond of this style of humour, JRPGs or even bullet hell games.
