Undertale

Well, I bought this game on the `better than the second coming` hype. I expected the low graphic style, even the twee music. I even stuck with the girly-looking avatar you have to use. What I didn`t expected was the pointless, samey walking about patronising writing and battles. It wasn`t that the battles were hard as such; they were just... let me think... A waste of my time. They made little or no sense- yea, I should talk to me, or something. I spared monster, I won! I cheered monster- I won! Waste of time. In fact the whole thing is a waste of time. The best way I can describe this is as a game for 10 year old girls and girls in general. It`s twee, it`s cute, it`s NICE. For some reason, people think it`s clever with the writing. Really? I`ve seen better in 10 year old games like Baldur`s gate and more maturity. Perhaps it`s just me because I was bored to tears afyer 20 minutes of this `twee` nonsense. I`d give this to my daughter if she wasn`t already too old for it! 2 out of 5 and that`s only because it`s me being `nice`. Don`t waste my time.

One of the best games that was released recently, worth playing especially for its price

If you want to play this game because you think it's another Mother/Earthbound title, just go play one of those. From this perspective, it's a very poor man's Earthbound. If you're in it for the more edgy aspects, just go play OFF! instead. From the perspective of all the "special" things this game does, it's simply a poor man's OFF!. You may have heard that this game does a lot of special things and that you shouldn't spoil yourself before playing it. To me, if you know that one of the game's keywords is genocide, and you know that no-one has to die, then the game pretty much spoils itself. I have no idea why people think it's a special thing full of surprises. You already know what you're getting into. It has humor, but it often uses its humor to create emotional distance--the precise opposite of the warm humor of Earthbound. It has choices, but they are generally not-choices. You know what you want to do, but it's hidden behind some goofy mechanic you have to figure out. To put it another way, if you do a bad thing in the game, it's not because you chose to do bad, but because you couldn't figure out what the creator wanted you to do. What hidden button the creator wanted you to press. I was suggested this game by a friend, immediately knew I didn't want to play it. I already knew everything about it (again, I can't get over how unique and surprising everyone thinks it is). But another friend bought it for me because I love Earthbound. I gave it a fair shot for his sake, but only to be nice. Eventually it became unbearable, so I stopped. I love Earthbound. I love Persona. I love stories and story-driven games more than I can convey. But I fear that this game is going to pull the industry in the wrong direction: banal tales hidden underneath silly mechanics easily perceived as clever, Tumblr humor, and gameplay that ranges from tearfully boring to obnoxiously frustrating. I hope the big dysfunctional family that is our gaming community moves on from it soon.

Great! Exactly one week after I cave and buy the game from Steam GOG finally decides to sell it. I HATE buying things twice!!

In a normal world, Undertale would be a mediocre bullet-hell title. Gameplay-wise it's really sub-par. On the other hand, the initial rpg parodying this game provides did help this title to be noticed, unfortunately not in a right way. Characters, plot and "go genocide or pacifist" - which is exactly the same gameplay-wise (the point was to show that there is no fucking difference in the mechanics in nowadays rpgs despite what marketing and drones can say) - are intentionally AWFUL. Yes, I said it. They're all awful on purpose and the game was received in absolutely wrong way by the "Internet people" (spoiled millenials unleashed). And you know how the lowest Internet's denominator is like. Early Internet was pretty tamed, yeah you had your Sonic maniacs and furries, but they were contained due to the lack of the totalitarian Internet Social Media cancer. But then the Social Media happened and it jumped to the band wagon along with aging, unleashed millenials that can't define themselves without any cringeworthy franchise, fanbase or trademark, due to being absolutely personality-less thanks to the reformed education. In my wildest dreams I wouldn't imagine that furries would be considered perfectly normal (although a little but silly) bunch on the Internet. But they're. Compared to "bronies" and tumblrinas they're. But ponies are getting old and the millenials crowds needed to find the new Thing to turn it into fandom shit. Surprisingly enough it was the Undertale's fate, because apparently fans failed the basic perception check on what this game's message is. The cringeworthy abuse of the Undertale logo, misunderstood themes and messages and Undertale porn invading EVERYTHING on the Internet is enough to hate this game itself, although it really doesn't deserve it. If you still think "oh boy, but what would be so bad out there to hate this game?". Google the "ask humantale" and remember that bleach will not be enough. I know you will hate me.
