Perfectly Enginnered Noir Adventure.

The developers took the best aspects that made old point and clicks memorable and made the game around them while cutting the fat. It's a lean experience and incredibly satisfying, with great voice acting and thoughtful dialouge that make every nonchalant comment from even the minor characters betray so much time and care. My biggest complaint with modern story driven games is the hesitation i have with making decisons, knowing i could easily make a "wrong" decision that leaves a bad taste throughout the rest of the game. Unavowed is not so punishing, instead offering decisons that lead to alternate, justifiable paths. If you regret a decision, it's only because "you" yourself wonder if the other path might have been better, and not because the game outright says you screwed up. Because of this, Unavowed is also really replayable. Sections of the game can have entirely different dialouge/characters than another playthrough based on your decisons. I highly recommend the game and wont say any more praise to avoid revealing too much, but I can understand some people wont feel quite as challenged with the puzzles int his game. I find them servicable, and very well sewn into the plot of the story, which is more my concern.

Another great Wadjet Eye title

Overall, I really liked this game. It had a few misses, but not many. It plays like many other Wadjet Eye titles which it feels like a familiar world, but a whole new chapter all the same. Pros: - You build a team and then pick 2 people for each mission. Each person has different skills. All puzzles can be solved in some way with any character combination, so this allows you to come at puzzles in the way you prefer, which is nice. - Fits into the "Wadjet Eye Universe" with references and nods to other titles, most notably the Blackwell series. - Good plot with lots of supernatural elements and some interesting takes on a few of them (mer-folk, faeries, dryads, djinn, etc). - Good voice work. - Mostly solid puzzles. Standard point-and-click gaming stuff, but most make sense (no 'moon logic' that is super esoteric to solve). Cons: - Once you pick a mission, you are stuck in that mission until it is done. That's not so bad, but it also occasionally locks you in an even smaller location until you've solved the puzzle there (like a single apartment). While it can be helpful (because it means what you need to solve it IS in that location), it can also be frustrating if you are stuck and just want to walk away and come back later. - Some art assets are hard to see. Sometimes this is a small item you may overlook, but I also had problems with ghosts being almost invisible. I saw some screenshots where the ghosts stood out, so I don't know why mine were so hard to see and if that just happens on some machines, but it was annoying. - Some puzzles have a lot of back-and-forthing, which gets a little repetitive in 1 or 2 points (but it's not that bad). If you liked other Wadjet Eye games (and I do), then I think this is right up your alley. And if you like point-and-click adventure titles, this is definitely one to add to your library.

Great story, good game

Good, memorable story. Solid dialogues and nice twist. Puzzles are rather intuitive, but there are some exceptions. Moral choices are brilliantly constructed, I really felt the bitterness at the end of each act. Graphics is low-budget pixel art, but important parts are well crafted. Slightly too short, but worth money, time and effort

Great story driven Adventure

I am not usually the biggest fan of adventure games mainly because of the often ridiculous trial and error puzzles which to me just get old really fast. Luckily this game focuses more on the story and the characters and the puzzles are usually fairly easy or can be solved with actual logic instead of making the solution trial and error or something completely absurd for the sake of cheap laughs. The pixel art is also beautiful and does an excellent job of conveing the athmosphere and the same goes for the soundtrack. However imo opinion the main selling point is the story and the characters. While the premise is not terribly original the story is told in a very engaging manner, especially for a point and click andventure, the characters are all likeable and believable as well and made me really care about this world, the voice acting is also really solid. Overall the way the story is told make the game quite the unique experience and I can't really think of any other game that provide something similar. All in all highly recommended for anyone who wants a unique mystery/fantasy noir story, wrapped in an accessible point and click adventure.

Awesome adventure

I loved the Blackwell series (and many other point and click adventures from WadjetEye Games) but Unavowed is in a class of its own. From the awesome atmosphere (graphics, music, voices) to the very good writing and the many ways to approach the various cases, this is what adventures should look like. Many times I caught myself just listening to my team members talking to eachother. Some decisions are quite hard, and the stories are very touching, as was expected from WadjetEye. Highly recommended as one of, or the best adventure game this year.
