Awesome fun
With the gameplay, graphics, and intense action, this is so much fun to play and learn about the Civil War at the same time. I have played many hours, put it away for a time, and returned to it, over and over, which is a testament to the game's pull and fun factor. A heck of a lot of fun!

Comprehensive and easy to access
Ultimate General: Civil War is a very easy to get to grips with game, it doesn’t require too much historical knowledge to effectively play. Its controls are easy to use, they are intuitive and do what you want them to do. The artwork and graphics of the game are a treat and give off a decent historical vibe, the music is perhaps too cinematic rather than authentic, which works in some areas of the game but not in others. The gameplay is solid, there are very few hidden variables but the game plays how it should feel. However the gameplay objectives at times are hideously unfair, the game moves the goalposts frequently and this can lead to disaster.

Good battles and an OK campaign
A fun Civil War game that I can recommend, though the campaign is more just a series of linked battles than a full opportunity to refight the civil war over a map of the US. Still its all good fun and one of the better US civil war games around at the moment. Install the J&P mod and it gets even better in most respects. My review: https://youtu.be/EbMHKGuoD3E

Outstanding and unique
Despite its flaws, mostly related to unfair AI scaling on higher difficulties, this is one of the best tactic games I've ever seen. The visuals and the OST deserve a special mention as well. Recommended, but definitely not for everyone.
