Ultima™ Underworld 1+2

For all the advances in AI and graphics, modern 'immersive' RPG games simply can't touch this. UU 2 is completely and utterly engrossing. The plot unfolds beautifully and there's a ton of gameplay. It's challenging enough but not so hard as to be annoying. Another game I still have an original hardcopy of but have been unable to play for ages. Oh and this one DOES play on OSX, unlike Populous The Beginning (my mistake :) ) Thanks again GOG!

Having played this on a PC hundreds of years ago I was sceptical if it would actually work on my Mac (MacBook Pro 2017 macOS 10.14.6) Thanks to GOG you can download a single file, install to a folder and like magic it just works, the DOSBox emulator boots up instantly and the game begins. UW2 is a masterpiece, immersive gameplay, melee, magic and so much more! Be sure to download and read the various manuals and maps that are included, they contain everything from hidden rooms to step-by-step guides and are packed with lore and backstory. Enjoy!

these games are very outdated, i tried to get into after playing a newer game like fallout, and had trouble becuase of how frustrating it was. and clunky. but I have such fond memories of it as a child, that i think i will give it another go and force myself past the clunky outdated interface and graphics. i mean, every goblin looks the same, so when you try to find the chief, you end up talking to the same guys over and over again. if you can get past that, its a masterful game that is wonderful to behold and will entertain you for hours. thats why i give it a five, becuase lets face it, the graphics shouldn't bother you after a couple hours of play.

The early to mid 90's where a wonderful time to be a PC Gamer. Many of the things PC gamers now take for granted all kicked off at the same - Creative Soundblaster Pro, Voodoo 3DFX graphics cards & the rise of the internet and online gaming. Then we have incredible, truly groundbreaking games like Doom, Quake & the Ultima Underworld series. Awesome stuff. It won't disappoint.

The first immersive simulation game, yet aged well like fine wine. Modern games have so much to learn from it.
