During the Twilight, all human responses were futile. Choosing caution over aggression, the governments of the world didn't realize how quickly the end could come, and were buried alongside those that they governed. A few, however, did survive, sealed in underground bases with stocks of food and oxygen. After several weeks, the spores seemed to have disintegrated, decomposing and settling into the soil. The world seemed safe again, for a time. This is where you come in: you must gather together the remaining peoples of the planet, find out what has happened, and, if possible, get your revenge.

No widescreen support
Unfortunately I'm forced to give this game a poor rating because the game doesn't support wide screen resolution. the maximum resolution is 1024x768, and there are no known fixes for this issue. I'm sure the gameplay is fine, but because of the poor resolution I'm unable to play this game and enjoy it.

Starts fun, then gets rediculously hard.
As soon as the enemies get rocket launchers, it gets stupidly hard. Rockets fire just as fast a psyonic device or sniper rifle, which means you have no chance to take them down, except by being at the far end of the map, using sniper rifles ... or healing after every single rocket enemy. Even with the best armour, bio armour, you get party wiped by 2 hits from any rocket!

It is not X-Com, but a great game.
First of all, people should be aware that the UFO series is NOT X-com, even tho it is inspired by it. The three UFO games (Aftermath, Aftershock and Afterlight) are one big story and get better from game to game. I found myself that after some mods and patches from the community (use google) the game is very enjoyable as soon as you get in your head that it simply is not X-com. Also without any patches it is still a very good game if you like blowing up mutants and aliens. The graphics are nice for the time and i enjoyed the story a lot, specially the storyline missions that are very hard and give you new pieces as of what happened to the planet. Even tho the research and production feels a bit weird, once you have a nice set of skilled soldiers and some nice weaponry, the battle against aliens and mutants is a lot of fun for many hours. If you plan on playing the trilogy, be sure to start with this part - it only gets better from here, as the production, research and ressource handling is improved from part to part (and different in every game). Give the game a chance and play for longer than two hours, and you will have a good time playing this and remembering it for one of the 'good old games'.

A Decent but Flawed Effort
UFO: Aftermath is the end result of a project called The Dreamland Chronicles: Freedom Ridge. Dreamland Chronicles was going to be an effort by a studio called Mythos Games to turn their legendary strategy franchise X-Com into a 3D title. However, Mythos shut down. Since then two different companies, Chaos Concept and ALTAR Interactive have created their own spin-offs, both starting with the title UFO in memory of X-Com's original title UFO: Enemy Unknown. The first of these spin-offs was UFO: Aftermath. It's a semi-real time strategy game like X-Com: Apocalypse where you can freeze time to give commands to your soldiers who will carry them out in real time. Like the old X-Com games it also puts a heavy emphasis on territory control and base management. Aftermath has a few problems though. Both the enemy AI and the economy systems make Aftermath unique in the sense that the enemy has no real AI and everything is free. With no economy and with enemies never doing anything beyond shooting at you, the game is way too easy. But still, it's not that bad and some strategy junkies may find it to their liking.
