Christ. Every game on GOG.com receives five stars. Every goddamn one. This is not a five-star (perfect, flawless, sublime) game. It's not a four-star (really, really good, superior to most) game.
It's a three-star (perfectly adequate, it works as advertised) game. It's fun, in a predictable and buggy way. And it's cheap.
It's almost a two-star (poorly designed, unoriginal, not worth the price) game, seeing as it's very buggy and has terrible voice acting.
At least it's not a one-star (steer clear, complete and utter waste of time and money) game.
The game packaging and reviews fooled me. I really thought the main point of the game was multi player and only lip service paid to the single player campaign. Based on that assessment, I have picked this one up and put it down a number of times. When I saw it come on GOG, decided the price was right and to take a chance. I am glad I did. While I agree with some of the reviews that the environment has a few problems, overall this solid title allows you to be immersed in its game world. While I’ve not finished yet and suspect that’s still some time in the future, I’ve probably got 80 – 100 hours invested in fighting my way through its’ huge game world and the game has not crashed a single time. The plot is interesting, the sub plots are difficult and one thing I have not seen other reviewers comment on is that the game has a sort of good vs. evil rating system where your character’s actions are rated by the various guild and power families in the game world in relation to that faction and others. I have not had to take sides yet, but believe as I move further along that the over design is to force me to favor one faction/guild over another. Characters that are in high standing with various factions receive bonus in terms of easy access to strong holds, lower prices for equipment upgrades and higher prices for fencing operations. In addition, several reviewers have mentioned controlling the horse can be tricky, but the horse is a much bigger advantage than disadvantage because of the mounted combat bonus and because of the saddlebags that allow you to carry more equipment and booty between towns. Also, do not forget to experiment by creating your own brews as it allows you to cook up weapon and character enhancements that can create very power weapons. For example, along the way I have been finding/looting rubies, which have allowed me to brew up fire, cold, poison and lightning enhancements for my weapons and have reached a point there, I have a weapons that can take down just about any appointment. That said I usually am killed off a couple of times before I figure out the right one to use for the job. ;-) One tip, walk your horse like a dog in large cities, or you might find yourself out of some of your hard-earned cash, paying off the local policy for running over some poor citizen. ;-) Overall, good game world, very fast learning curve, interesting story line and quest logs, excellent portal system for quickly traveling between explored areas, good combat system, and tons of really cool looking armor, weapons and adversaries. This game is an excellent value at $9.00.
First of all, I don't understand why GOG added this game to the site. It is neither old, nor good. The story is a badly written mess of fantasy clichés and wonky characters. The graphics are very uneven. Sometimes the game looks quite good, sometimes not so good... This game had potential but generally failed at everything. Want to upgrade a sword? Just put two swords that look alike onto eachother. Repeat this and you have a sword that instant-kills anything in the game. The game lacks where and RPG shouldn't. Weak story, bad characters. You can create a quite unique character. The problem is that the skill/magic system is badly balanced and actually, a mess. I don't understand how peple can give this game 4 and 5's. If youre thinking of picking up Two Worlds, buy one of the other GOOD OLD RPG's that GOG has. This is a waste of money.
I have no idea how this game can have such good reviews, its simply a bad game.
The combat sucks, the interface is bad, sounds..music..dialog..man that makes you want to mute the entire thing. Quests are stupid, the story is just plain boring and the fighting system..oh well it just sucks.
Several times I had to run back to a questgiver simply because he didn't gave you the quest he talks about. Its not like in Fallout where one quest can overwrite another or a main quest creates something special or teleports you somewhere or sets a script in action.
No that would be a good game, instead we got Npc's talking about a quest..maybe you will even have the pleasure of seeing a horrible cutscene and than you are told to "come back when you are ready" I did ..and nothing freaking happens, except that I now have the quest in my questregister.
Well on the other hand, its nice that they give me a few seconds in silence, so I can process the horrible dialog and the underwhelming cut scenes.
Bottom line: Spend nothing on this game and nothing on the follow up either, do not even spend Money on this, if you are curious on how bad it is..just.. don't even look at it, its not worth your time.
I'm not sure how it has a rating of 4/5 so I'm giving it a 1/5 to try to counter-balance the overly exuberant raters. In reality this game should be a 2.5/5. I would buy this when it goes on sale but paying full price might be a bit too much.
cons:
-Voice acting is absolutely horrible to the point of making you wonder if they're making fun of you with every line.
-Combat can either be brutally hard or very easy (especially if you take advantage of bugs)
-Inventory is horrible and makes your life difficult
pros:
- fairly nice game world which lets you wander wherever you please
- it is fun if you can overlook the cons.
