Charming - and little besides that
This is one of these games, that giving them low rating feels wrong, but at the same time you know you can't give them any more. This game is about building a picturesque, quaint and cozy coastal/island towns. That's it. you pick a colour, pick a spot, and build platform, on it a house, on it another floor... And that would be it - you don't have a choice of what kind of tile you place. Only where and what colour it will be. You don't have control on anything, not even how a placed tile will morph (sometimes turning whole sections of a roof into "walkway" because the game decided it's expansive enough). Is it relaxing? I guess. There is no scoreboard, no timers, no goals and achievements. So nothing to burst your peaceful bubble. Just turn on your favourite radio/playlist/podcast and enjoy - the game does not have any dedicated soundtrack. The grid (tiles) is of irregular shape, which helps create interesting looking townscapes, but it can get annoying at times (looking at you, star-shaped tiles). Also, When you are happy with your town, you can experiment with lighting and time-of-day, with windows nicely flickering with light when the night setting is chosen. Sadly, once the charm washes over, there is nothing to keep you captivated. And it grows old very fast. Building larger townscapes is also quickly becoming a chore, as there is no way to change size, or shape of your "brush", and there is no way to drag-and-draw, meaning there is always "one click, one tile". That's a big oversight for a game like this. Once you finish with your town, you can only screenshot it and share with your friends, and that would be it - no option to "visit" it other than editor's bird-fly-by view (I really wish for the devs to add an option to take a stroll through your town and admire your creation, and add some random people walking the streets - add some life to otherwise static townscapes).
