Creative Assembly & GOG -thank you!

I already own and have played all of the Total War games. I still have my CD version of Shogun, but I'll be re-purchasing these on GOG because of how invested I am in this series and GOG. The breadth of this game together with Romance Mode and the setting of the three Kingdoms really does it for me. It's very immersive - it led me into some outside study of the lore when I first picked it up which definitely helped. You can tell there was some real love put into the making of this game, but I think it does need some investment on the part of the player to really make the most of it - I suspect that's why it can be a bit like marmite for some? The steam version of TW3K runs fine on Linux so I'm confident that the GOG version will too. The only Total War game that is unlikely to work on Linux (**at time of writing**) is Rome II, so re-check on Proton dB before purchasing that one if you use Linux. Having 3K, Rome, Med2 & Attila on GOG are fantastic - but Shogun 2 / Fall of the Samurai would be awesome.

TOTAL WAR ON GOG!

[Not a helpful review, sorry, I'm excited!] Total War is coming to GOG! Own most all the games on Steam (the first game I ever endured Steam for was Shogun 2), and although it'll hurt my wallet, I'm jumping at the chance to own these for real, on GOG. All praise to the GOG overlords! I've only clocked a few hours in Three Kingdoms, but I did enjoy what I played. Much like Pharaoh, I had to go through a bit of analysis paralysis on choosing my first faction and playthrough. One of the best things I found was being able to configure my lords (and heroes? I can't remember) to be infantry, archers or cavalry - not unlike Rome 2. Honestly I'm just jazzed to see Total War coming to GOG, but if you enjoy the Total War model, are interested in a change in geography, and want to try something fun, give Three Kingdoms a crack - when you're funds allow, of course!

Best Total War i ever played

Played that game for 699,2 hours on Steam over the years and bought it now here on gog to hopefully always have access to it! It is the best of the Total War games i ever played. I enjoy the mix of hero and unitgameplay as well as the setting of the three kingdoms.

Regarding Mods

One thing to bear in mind when buying it on GOG is that the mod community is mostly based on the steam workshop and to download said mods locally you have to own the game on steam and go through steamCMD to get get them or ask the modders to post them elsewhere. Most mods currently only exist on steam, so this unfortunately means that this version is inferior only in that regard but the no DRM is ofc a huge upside.
