由Cavedog Entertainment首席设计师Chris Taylor主导开发，《横扫千军》是一款即时策略（RTS）游戏。本作最初于1997年9月30日发售，这款游戏同时也是有史以来第一款拥有3D单位与地形的即时策略游戏。游戏拥有两个扩展包：于1998年4月30日推出的《核心危机》，以及于两个月后的1998年6月30日推出的《战斗策略》。在《横扫千军》推出时，当时游戏的最低电脑配置要求还是奔腾100 MHz处理器以及16MB内存。当然那只是针对1997年的电脑规格的要求，现代的设备早已大大超出当时的推荐配置，但考虑到此版游戏使用了更新后的游戏引擎，我们推荐玩家使用达到至少1 GHz处理器以及512MB内存配置的设备来游玩。

Awful quality
Downloaded this to my iMac today. The game quality was awful, stuttering across the whole screen. The game couldn't maintain a clear, unflickering screen. Total waste of money,

Waste
Downloaded the game from this website. Clicked to run it and it would open the main page and some of the following screens. Went to play and it would crash every time. Waste of my time and money

Seems good but very buggy.
I had 16 hours clocked up before I finally had to give in and uninstall. Bugs or compatability issues make this unplayable. In the middle of a misson, units stop responding: either don't move where they are supposed to go or do not take commands. This game requires constant input to units or you will lose.
