A solid 3.5 star game.

For the good, the atmosphere and soundtrack are fantastic! The puzzles are great. Most of them will make you think for a while but are definitely solvable without looking up a guide. Plus I do appreciate the shortcuts you find in the map. Story is servicable. Though for the bad, camera is constantly in front of you so you usually have to guess where an enemy is. Sometimes enemies get a free hit when you enter a room. The character voice acting is pretty bad. Not as charming as the games its tryng to mimic. Character models themselves don't seem like they fit the setting at all due to low quality textures and materials plus the animations and acting could use some work. Also there isn't a lot of enemy variety and the AI isn't very good. Combat is sluggish and because of tank controls, you will find yourself taking more hits than you'd like. Other than all that, its a fun game and worth a play through if you like classic style survival horror!

Very, very nice

As many others have said, Tormented Souls takes after classic Resident Evil and Silent Hill games. I would say that it took the elaborate locking mechanisms and save rooms from RE, and just about everything else from SH3. This is not criticism, though -- saying that a game feels like genuine Silent Hill is high praise in my book. Save slots as an in-game consumable (there are finitely many tapes and one is consumed each time you save) seemed like a bold choice to me, though the overall effect it had on the gameplay was beneficial. The game looks good and the heroine might be the loveliest I've had the pleasure of playing in three decades. Her outfit, the bouncy walk, the way she keeps her balance when walking down a flight of stairs, her character, her altruistic motivation... everything about this girl is just plain likeable. Without spoiling anything, I also want to praise the story: At some point I felt that it was getting quite predictable, which made some of the revelations and twists all the more surprising and enjoyable. Some of the puzzles I found to be a bit obscure. Also, since the explored area gets progressively larger, it can become difficult to remember where there might still be an elaborate locking mechanism that you have yet to unlock. Overall I would strongly recommend this to anyone who likes classic RE/SH, or even just horror games that rely on atmosphhere and story rather than on "psychological" (jump scare) horror.

Tormented Souls is a throwback....

A throwback to the good ol' days of survival horror, when resource management mattered, when 2 enemies could wipe out your inventory with poor planning, puzzles that require some thinking, etc. This is a true survival horror game, with the traditional style of gameplay before every game wanted to be Resident Evil 4 or Amensia. Cheesy voice acting, monster design, level design, backtracking, it's all there. There is a little bit of Silent Hill, Resident Evil, and Haunting Ground inspirations in this game. Do yourself a favor and check it out ASAP!

A love letter to survival horror games

Let's get the TL;DR out of the way. If you enjoyed OG Resident Evil and Silent Hill, this game will fill that void left in your heart. The tank controls are back (but improved IMO), the atmosphere that the game creates it's perfect. a lot of puzzles in a creepy mansion with some enemies that at the beginning you really feel like they are a challenge. The voice acting is kinda bad but is part of the charm of old survival horror games. You could argue it was made on purpose like that. The story feels rushed at the beginning, like it wants to get to the serious part really quick. I would have loved a bit of backstory. but overall the story was good, not amazing but good. I have nothing but respect for the devs that made this game, lets not forget that a small team made this experience. I enjoyed the crap out of this game. I assure you that if you play this game, you'll feel the same.

Life is too short for this

What a crying shame, it looks great and has an interesting enough premise... It works with disorienting camera views much like early resident evil games, except even worse and more unfairly. Aiming is clunky as is, then you take a step back and suddenly the monsters aren't in the picture cause you entered a different view. On top of that they need several good hits, All fine and dandy, if saving was available in reasonable intervals, But first having to replay the whole prologue because something that kills you was designed to look like the graphic card acting up, upon which I looked for my phone to document it instead of getting our of there.... and then replaying half an hour because safepoints were so far apart and I died a completely unfair death... well, that's when I gave up on it. With regrett, cause it looks cool and the puzzles were pleasant so far.
