Tormented Souls is a love letter and throwback to the old school survival horror games, warts and all, even including the age-old tank controls found in the games it looks to emulate. Honestly, it does a good job in this, setting the atmosphere, ramping up the stakes and only rarely venturing into the absurd when it comes to puzzle logic. While not completely innocent, with some nonsense puzzles, and a questionable art style for the protagonist, there's enough on offer to keep you going and it makes it more than worth the reasonable price of the game.

Fantastic Survival Horror
I very much so enjoy this game, it brings a beautiful and somber, nostagic tone. Incredible game, I am just a sucker for survival horror tho!

Pastiche
You could say Tormented Souls is pastiche. Yeah. I guess it’s pastiche, but that idea has some negative connotations in my mind because “pastiche” is the wet newspaper of words. I hope you feel just as negative about it because if you don’t then I’m going to need to write a new introduction. I’m not going to write a new introduction. There’s nothing negative here, just some adjustments you need to make. Tormented Souls is a great survival horror game, and I’m not just saying that because the hobby I’ve been passionate about since childhood has been dismantled by sceptic speculators over the last fifteen years. Tormented Souls is such excellent pastiche of the fifth and six generation survival horror genre that, if it wasn’t lacquered in the unity engine, you wouldn’t be able to tell it was released recently. It even has the same shortfalls. Dual Effect were so thorough in their imitation that they didn’t just recreate the mistakes of the genre, they seemingly recreated them by accident. You just don’t see that kind of earnestness anymore.

Great puzzles
I think this had some of the best survival horror puzzles of all time outside of a single music puzzle. The combat isn't special, but it does a great job of giving you just enough resources to get through everyone. Overall, really solid.
