Two games like two sides of a coin.

Too bad the two games are bundled. The graphics and lighting in TR IV game look fantastic for the time, the puzzles sometimes use new, creative and clever approaches and unlike the other games, the enemies seemed quite well balanced and I had less of a problem with the enemies using guns this time. Some of the level designs are probably the best the series has done so far. (Moving Train Level!) But the weak point lies mainly in the rest. The game sometimes tries to be far too complicated and clever with its puzzles, but overdoes it with the solution-finding, so that puzzles are actually made unnecessarily difficult. It doesn't offer a satisfying feeling when you solve the puzzle or look it up out of frustration, you feel cheated. So it feels more like work to play through the game. I remember having the game since release in 1999 and at some point I just stopped playing it, even though I could play the predecessors up and down. And after playing it again, I know why. But it still had strong moments. TR Chronocles on the other hand is a mess. You can see that the development team that worked on this game had no motivation or passion and Eidos wanted to bring the game to market as quickly as possible. You can often forgive flaws in games if the overall experience of the game is still somehow enjoyable. For example, I consider TR IV still as a good game, which despite the many frustrating elements was still a solid game where you can see that the developers have made an effort. But the buggy half-finished Chronicles destroyed my experience and my already fading enjoyment for the game, making it one of the games I would probably never touch again. And therefore I can't recommend it to anyone. Seriously, skip this game or try in in the Remastered Version. I didn't play it, but i assume they fixed many of the appearing bugs. Other thand that it had some neat ideas like stealth, but you quickly realize how little this potential is actually used.

My second PC game

I started PC gaming with captain Claw. This was my second game. This game required a lot of patience and thought. And at the time, the graphics were mind blowing. I remember being wow-ed by the fact that when Lara got out of a pool of water, the water drops would drip for a while. And the shadows and lights, for that time, were very, very good. Compared to the rest of the TR games, I feel that this is the best when it comes to letting you feel as a tomb raider. The others were mostly action games with a bit of tomb "exploration" thrown in

Start or a new era

The 4th entry in the Tomb Raider franchise and the start of a new era. Great game and a massive improvement over Tomb Raider III. The story is more vast and graphics are top notch. Remember the bad ass Lara we get in Angel of Darkness? This is her beginning

Best Tomb Raider Game!!!

As KainKlarden said, this for me, as well, is the BEST game of the Franchise!!! The story is rich, and full which whets one's appetite. Yes, I admit that it has its cons too, like the ropes and some levels being a bit too depressing, dark and boring to some. However, these levels too had a meaning as to why they were in the game! Another great thing to mention is how passionate I became about Egypt, egyptology, the hieroglyphs, and all her myths. And I owe everything to this game and Lara's adventure to that place! Additionally, please, allow me to reinforce and paste KainKlarden's words as I am in favour of them and he/she couldn't have said it better!: "...Sure, TR2 and 3 did some cool stuff, it was fun to see the underwater sections and explore sunken ships. hell, even the urban exploration thing, like the London non-used underground station was kinda fun. But it ultimately felt like developers just had a list of cool places around the world the wanted Lara to visit, and they just threw them in the game without much rhyme and reason. The Last Revelation, however, does the opposite. It's a focused and much more agile and fun return to the Tomb Raider 1 feel. Which is exactly why some people might not like it, thinking of it as a more boring, lacking of "epic adventure action" experience. But, in my opinion, it was the return to what Tomb Raider does best - exploring the tombs, finding secrets, solving puzzles and figuring out ancient prophecies. It wasn't without bad parts, sure. The ropes i already mentioned, and there was a simply too tedious part with a motorcycle closer to the end of the game. And Alexandira part is a tiny bit too open for exploration, while having only one correct path of events. But it's still great at what it does right, and what it does wrong just makes it a tiny bit more annoying, not bad...when i think Tomb Raider, i think about The Last Revelation. The best classic, and probably the best overall, Tomb Raider game."

Classic Tomb Raider in final iteration

While most players will choose other parts of the series as their favourite game, I really enjoyed both The Last Revelation and Chronicles pretty much. Both upgrade Lara with new movement. In The Last Revelation, she learns swinging with ropes, which is indeed a bit clunky, but partially fixed in Chronicles, and also to climb poles. Chronicles also adds the ability to somersault down from an elevated niche, as well as tightrope walking. And it feels just great. Regarding the levels, both games could not be more different. The Last Revelation is located just in Egypt, while previous games usually had levels around the world. However, the ability and necessity to change between levels as often as you want at certain points generates a feeling of a much bigger world, though you might loose track of what to do and where to go next. Chronicles on the other hand presents four independent chapters about adventures of Lara Croft. I liked especially the last one, where Lara infiltrates a skyscraper to take an artifact. Chronicles suffers from little time under development. Some parts feel empty and unfinished. Which is sad, but it is still enjoyable.
