Tomb Raider is a game that needs no introduction but if, for some reason, you are not familiar with the series, then these games are about the adventures of the beautiful, intelligent, and athletic British archaeologist Lara Croft. You might think that this job is mostly digging holes and dusting old bones. How could a game about that possibly be fun? Well, Lara Croft is anything but an ordinary archaeologist and her life is anything but boring. Lara Croft, tomb raider, occupies an interesting niche between Indiana Jones and Bayonetta: she’s a relic hunter who can kick butt and take names with the best of them.
When Lara ventures into ancient tombs in search for legendary treasures and forgotten knowledge, she must keep in mind that those responsible for safeguarding those artifacts didn’t leave them unguarded. The tombs are filled with deadly traps, bizarre monsters, and clever puzzles. Lara is not all looks, though, so she’s ready for the dangers that await. At her disposal is an arsenal of weapons from twin pistols, through all kinds of machine guns and assault rifles, all the way to grenade launchers and bazookas.
In the first game, Lara seeks a powerful artifact--the Scion--that seems to be the key to finding the mythical island of Atlantis. In the second game of the series our sexy archaeologist follows the trial of the mystical Dagger of Xian, which is a weapon used by the first Emperor of China, and it is said that by plunging the dagger into one's heart, the bearer turns into a dragon. The third part features non-linear gameplay, meaning you can choose not only the way in which you complete a level, but also your next destination in the story. Here, you fight against an evil corrupt corporation--RX Tech-- that has come into possession of a strange meteorite apparently imbued with unique properties.
Fans of action platformers, great stories, and timeless classics: good news! You don’t have to plunder any long-forgotten crypts to pick up the phenomenal Tomb Raider games: get them here on GOG.com instead.
We love these games, they have certainly earned their place in gaming history.
However in all honesty, I think the PC versions of these classics (1-6) aren't worth your time.
I spent a few weeks patching and modding PC versions to get an "as close as possible" experience to the console releases. Across the 6 games I used files from the GOG, Steam, CD, and PSX versions (as well as some of the amazing work by the community on tombraiderforums.com) and got them running how I wanted - so it IS possible to have fully functioning PC versions...
...but it's not worth the time doing all of that, unless you really have nothing else to do with your life - like me for the last few weeks :)
One of the best games ever, in a pack with the downfall of the series
Tomb Raider 1 is even nowadays one of the most impressive games i ever played, it had everything, nice story, mistery, good characters, innovative gameplay, amazing graphics. The problem is today you can play the "remake" that has all the good elements of the old one, with actual gameplay and graphics. I should say i love the remake as much as i loved the original one.
Tomb Raider 2: For me is one of the worst TR ever, my hype was maximum when i bought it just when hitted the street, what i found was a Lara Croft becoming a "big tits B..." instead of the interesting sexy woman i found in the first one, i hated the end of the game...come on, the final scene with Lara on the shower was ridiculous ... what a shame i was a young man and instead of turning me on (it tried to do that right?) made feel ashamed of what they did with Lara (and im not a conservative person). Also all the game was a shame too, locations that didnt match the engine of the game giving "weird" feelings on the atmosphere. As example the "cube made Venice" that it was a crap even in the time the game was released. The next mistake was changing the "platform/puzzle/traps/exploration game" to "action" in too many moments. It was horrible change, for a game was not prepared to shoot and shoot... from here Tomb Raider series was DOOMED nearly from the beginning. It was only Tomb Raider Legend and the Remake that i returned to fully enjoy the series again.
Tomb Raider 3: A good game, far away from the first one, but still much better and enjoyable than the second one, with less action and much more exploration and traps (that totally fits the game much more than the constant gunfights of the second one) The locations were really better and fit the engine much better, anyway technically was bit outdated even when it was launched.
If you´re a collector maybe this pack will be great, if you just care for the good Tomb Raider games, then you can totally forget about the 2nd game, maybe think if you want the 3rd or not. But if you never played Tomb Raider one, or want to play it again, go instead for the remake, it has the same magic, without the old control issues, and updated technically to our days.
GoG is getting better and better every week, And now, The fantastic Lara Croft is available in all her 1996 glory.
For any action adventure fan you can't go past this Tomb Raider collection! My first PS1 game was Tomb Raider and while the graphics haven't aged well, who cares?
