The Toaplan Arcade Shoot'em Ups Ultimate Collection gives you four arcade classics for a great price! It's quadruple the action, a billion times the fun, and a thrill ride back in time to the neon-lit arcades of the 80s!
With modern enhancements, leaderboards, screen filters, and quality-of-life extras, no threat stands between you and absolute victory. Got what it takes? Prove it on the battlefield!
System requirements, bonus goodies, and features may vary between games - please check individual product pages for details.
I have been always trying to play Fire Shark as I used to do back in the 80's. Today, I got the collection. Expensive for these old games. But you know what? I enjoyed the game as it is exactly as I remembered it. No remorse, can't wait to give it another go when I get there.
This is a great collection. These are classic shmups. Not the modern day Donmaku/bullet hell games (except for Batsugun).
This collection includes vertical flying shooters and horizontal flying shooters and Commando/Ikari Warriors style vertical shooters.
If you like shooters or want to play shooters but don't like the Donmaku/bullet hell style of game that currently dominates the genre this is a fantastic collection of shooters offering a variety of game types.
These games will test your skills and at times patience. But these game are about getting good and mastery - not one and done playthroughs.
NOTE: I bought all the games in this collection individually because the 4 collections (Toaplan Classics 1, 2, 3 and 4) and complete collection were not available at the time.
I feel that the presentation of this collection is very well done, with (mostly) consistent options and quality of life improvements throughout all 16 games. The emulation is perfect on my windows 11, and windows 10 PCs. With the help of practice modes, and things like enemy life bars and hitboxes, these games have suddenly become approachable for beginner shmup fans. Many of the games have score counters as a toggle, although this option is missing from a few games. All games have side art with instructions and hints. In terms of price, I'd recommend buying the 16 game collection in order to get the discounted price.
A collection of 16 old shmup classics from the arcades, and while the price is a bit steep, I couldn't be happier.
This is a very no nonsense port of the classics (each entry only take up about 20 megabytes). It runs buttery smooth and comes with several handy features to help one reach that coveted 1CC. That said, as I alluded to earlier, they are still very light on any other content (this is not an M2 release after all) with no bonuses or the like. There is the option for some of the games to select different versions, which is a nice thing to have though, but not much more than that. This collection is only raw gameplay as close to the arcade original as possible.
However, as is true of the arcade experience, I wouldn't have it any other way. Any other stuff would just be fluff as these releases do what it needs to do and does so competently.
