A beautiful interactive story

As others have mentioned, this is not much of a game. It is instead an interactive story... But it's a different story, and it will gently move you a lot; like a butterfly punching you in the gut. The design, the story, and particularly the music will help achieve something you don't see every day. True, I cannot guarantee you will like it - people's tastes are different and all - but I will recommend that you at least try it.

It's an interactive movie

You can't change the resolution from 640x480, and there's a good reason. It's an interactive movie done in a retro 16-bit RPG style. It's a great example of how in the future the media we enjoy now will merge in weird and entertaining ways. It's like someone took Inception, and a couple of other sci-fi mental stories, threw in a cool slice-of-life story like you find in some graphic novels, then made the story a SNES game. Worth a look, play, and buy simply for the fact that it's something bold, new, and works.

A piece of art

I just finished the game and... wow. A few hours long, but each moment is filled with emotions. I laughed at times, enjoying the exchanges between the characters, but I cried. I cried at the end, letting my tears flow freely as I didn't do in years. This game is beautiful, there is no question about it. You have to feel it, to appreciate it, just like some of the greatest (and sadly unknown) books and movies. Yes, video games are an art. This is one of the proofs of it.

A Beautiful Tragedy

More a epic movie than a game, To the Moon honestly has the most complex, beautiful, and tragic storyline I've ever seen - not just amongst games, but also literature and film. The game is RPG maker-ish in its graphics and physics, which can be slightly off-putting but that shouldn't detract from the utter epicness. A beautiful soundtrack backs the story, which starts slowly, but is peppered with humour - One of the two main characters, Dr Watts, plays the comic relief which comes as an amusing mood lightener for an otherwise serious story. It all comes together in a brilliant way that will have you thinking about it (and tearing up) for weeks after. Even if you don't like games this is a must play.
