I was thrilled to be able to play this game again on a modern system. Unfortunately, I have noticed issues not far into the game. Conversations with other characters cut off before they are finished. When going out the door that leads to the boat deck, you wind up on the A deck promenade instead of the boat deck. Hopefully these issues can be fixed.
I purchased this game originally in 1998 when I found it at work and have always been somewhat intrigued by the Titanic. I loved playing it. My computer at the time didn't handle it great, but I got through it and played it repeatedly. I still have my original hard copy and had found an alternate installer online so I could play it again. Sadly the game hasn't held up as far as playability in its original form so you can imagine my delight when I found out it was for sale on GOG and I gladly dropped the money on it. The game experience is much better (though still true to the original, I don't get the same crashes and stalls I get on my hard copy). I still love playing through this game and have deemed this the best Titanic game I've found. I stll hold by that today and would highly recommend for any Titanic fan or someone who is interested in the ship in general.
this is one best titanic games i played
great gameplay, diffenent endings, good charactors, story is good and not too heavy with politics of the time
still holds up and fun to play for me to the point where i still remenber where to go, what to do, get the best ending etc
enjoy the tour mode in the original and remenber the rest of tour guides were "DLC" before dlc even was mainstream today
i still own my original big box pc version i got when i was a kid in mid 90s along titanic: the interactive journey publish by same original publisher europress in uk
basically - play it, you wont regert it
I enjoyed playing this game back in the days and finished it but not with the good ending back then (4 or 5 possible endings). I wondered if playing this game again today was purely about nostalgia or if the game was really very good as it used to be when it was initially released.
Now I can confirm this game is truly a gem and is even today a very good gaming experience and great adventure (compared to other adventure games of that time that are not as playable or got old too fast.)
Also, this is the only adventure first-person point and click adventure game taking place of the famous Titanic that has been made to that day (or I have not heard or played about any other).
To me the pleasure of playing that game was intact, also, I am a fan of the genre.
I read here and there that the game is considered to be short, but I remember spending hours on it at the initial release, and the length is pretty decent if you play without help. Also, getting the right ending (no spoiler here) is not easy and makes it replayable.
Even with modern standards, i consider this game to be a must-play for any adventure game lover.
Titanic: Adventure Out of Time is almost certainly the greatest CD-ROM adventure game of all time (Better than Myst. Better than Journeyman Project.) and it presents the most complete, hisotrically accurate computer model of the Titanic ever made. If you are a fan of Titanic history then you must play this because this is the definitive interactive Titanic experience. If you are a fan of the Myst series or the Journeyman Project series then you must play this because this is the same genre as those games done with the same super high level of quality they represented. If you like spy and time travel games then you must play this because it has a wonderful time travelling spy narrative full of intruige and suspense.
If you are a fan of the romance from the 1997 James Cameron film, then you'll be disappointed, because this is not a romance game. This is a much cooler spy game which came out a year before the film. It has a much better soundtrack and a much more interesting narrative. I played this game before I saw the film, and I knew exactly how to get to every location shown in the film after having been all over the ship from playing this, but the film still disappointed me because the game is better. Skip the movies and just play this!
By the way, to anyone who is complaining about the low graphics quality: This is a game from 1996. I'd love to see a remake for modern resolutions but we're super lucky that NightDive Studios has managed to even get it to run on modern systems at all, so the original graphics are all we've got. If you can't stand playing games from 1996 then you are just a terrible person.
