A Great APRG with a unique setting.
Context: Played Titan Quest when it first came out and beat the anniversary edition on Steam. I did not play any multiplayer. Titan Quest is a bit of an acquired taste but I am grateful that a develop decided to explore an ancient world/mythological world instead of the endless fantasy hack and slash games that show up in the genre. The combat and overall pace of the game is a bit slower because of cooldowns on potions and most skills, but the game world draws you in. The music, sound effects, voice acting and overall aesthetic of the game helps set the mood as you traverse the ancient world of Greece, Egypt and China. Next, you do not immediately pick a class to play. You pick a male or female avatar then as you begin to level up you can choose to be a single or dual class character. Additionally, as you invest in your class you must decide how many points to put into your class mastery so as to unlock new tiers of skills. I found this system of levelling up to be very satisfying because you can really experiment with what type of character you want to build and encourages multiple playthroughs and character builds. Another feature I really enjoyed was the lack of a stash to store your loot. I felt like Titan Quest really wanted the player to keep pushing forward and explore instead of constantly returning to town to rearrange gear. I personally found the loot to be interesting and I never stressed about trying to pickup every item because I knew I could not carry it all around. Since I could not carry everything around I was very picky about what to keep and would While in my Torchlight reviews I praised the ability to send pets to town to buy and sell items, I found that Titan Quest just solves this endless back and forth trip to town by having better loot and forcing you not to horde items. I would often ask myself "do I really want to lug this item around or stop the flow of combat to go back to town?" I recommend this game to all ARPG fans.
