If you enjoy Choose Your Own Adventure type games, you'll love This is the President. It scratches a Schadenfreude itch for the dystopian hellscape we currently live in, and it's equal parts fun, funny, and quite disturbing along the way, even with the odd choice baked in..

This Is the President has a good premise and some fun moments and choices. Playing as a scumbag who’s willing to do almost anything to get complete immunity while screwing or manipulating everyone else can be a hoot. But the concept clashes with the tone of some of the events and decisions in weird ways. You can think about being a good president but the need to get the amendment through overwrites any attempt at actual politics.

Close to the perfect interactive story

It's going to be hard to review without dropping a massive spoiler. It's a beautifully written game, if you like dark humour and wacky situations, and it really has a great balance of story progression and managerial dynamics. I got completely hooked to it, and finished in a couple of days. BUT what really spoiled it for me is how on rails the ending is. Once again, can't spoil, but you'd imagine that there could be varied branches to the end story, for a man with such a team, who could do MANY other things to guarantee himself a peaceful retirement. The fact that the authors decided it was one way only is really a shame. But eh, still the best written thing I've seen in the genre in a long time

A game with abysmal politics

Possibly a produce of game design necessity. But this game has abysmal politics. It may have been made with well meaning intentions, but this game fundamentally forecloses on the possibility of better outcomes.

this is a game made by smart people

the music is incredible. the satire is cutting. the dialogue options are interesting. the interface is well-designed. the depictions of the mechanics of the american political process are correct. the tone perfectly negotiates the space between absurdly hilarious and darkly horrific. the team behind this title got everything exactly right. this is a piece of media that gracefully and effectively makes the case for video games as art. a lot of games these days are for children or morons. so i guess if you're a childish moron, this isn't for you. that's fine, "call of duty: worship the military and shoot the generic people who don't look like you" isn't going anywhere. for the rest of us: VOTE. VOTE VOTE VOTE VOTE DEAR GOD IN HEAVEN AND OFFER TO GIVE YOUR NEIGHBORS RIDES TO THE POLLING PLACE. also play this game. it's so great.
