Having received training from an enigmatic organization known as the Keepers, Garrett leaves the order and goes back to the life of a thief on the streets of the City. Once you enter the underworld you have to deal with all the consequences - you are not the only one out there looking for decent loot. Hide in the shadows of the dark, savage city. Sneak into old ruins, haunted cathedrals and mansions of the rich. Incapacitate your enemies quietly or in an open fight. This unique sneak-em-up game provides you with a range of means to achieve your goal. Remember though - secrecy is your best friend.
THIEF™ GOLD is a first-person perspective stealth game. It was the first game to use light and sound gameplay mechanics – different surfaces cause varying noise (for example carpets are quiet and ceramic tiles are very loud). You can use sound to your advantage - it’s not only your main source of information on how close your enemies are but you can use it to distract them, for example by throwing objects. With unscripted levels, and objectives and paths altered based on difficulty settings, THIEF™ GOLD can give you hours of non-repetitive gameplay.

This is still one of the best games ever, and the Gold Edition is somewhat rare so this is excellent news to see it here. I will no doubt buy it again, even though I have the retail discs in excellent condition :-)
This has been one of my favourite games of all time before Half-Life 2 rolled around. And even then, it's still up there in my top 5. I'm super excited to finally play it again on a modern computer, and have it work as it's supposed to. Thank you, and thank you again, GOG!
Forget Master Chief, this is all about Garett... Master Thief, anti-hero extrodinaire!
One of the most underrated yet oddly influential games of it's time. You're thrust into a cutthroat world of backstabbing intrigue and swashbuckling action yet the focus isn't on direct confrontation but of subversive guerilla tactics, espionage and thievery.
Really is a gem of a game and a perfect foil for all of the ridiculous action shooters that the first person genre is saturated with these days, give Call of Duty a rest for a second and give this game a go, well worth your time!
This with the other masterpiece Deus Ex coming to GOG. We have a nearly complete triumphant of titles to enjoy. Although, Thief rarely makes the "Best Of" list by the mindless gaming review parrots it is a true masterwork. Assassins Creed is a ripoff and pale homage to this game series by the evil Demon spew that populate the dark halls of Ubisoft-may they all burn in hell.
Take control of Garrett and download the mods and expansions enjoy the world of steam-punk and stealth. This game is over a decade old and yet when I play it I am forced to realize how far games have come yet how far they regressed and feel regret in any part I have played in that d-evolution. A gem of a game that despite dated graphics and a limited linear story line delivers in ways that so few games of recent memory can.
The game experience I had a the time of release is still umatched today. No game has come close to the TOTAL experience. Everytime I think about "Return to the Cathedral" mission, I get goose bumps. Play this game the way it is meant to be played and you'll want more. When I think about a favourite game, I say Thief The Dark Project without deliberation.
