Garrett, the Master Thief, steps out of the shadows into the City. Decent stealth game, but not enough
To be honest this game isn't that bad. It's decent, but of course hardcore fans from the Thief franchise will feel disappointed for several reasons. My main complain is the world and level design, because it is an 'open world' you think this could benefit a game like Thief where you have a lot of freedom and the exploration feels great, but the truth is that with exception of some missions, everything feels uninteresting, the places you can go are very limited and there are some nice puzzles from time to time but still don't feel that's enough. I feel a problem that they didn't solve from the previous Thief 3 is the lack of any fast traveling. While at first everything feels exciting to explore and discover, trying to always traverse throught the places avoiding enemies can feel tedious. Despite of all that, I still bought this game after playing it on Steam and I feel happy to own the full collection.

Not bad, but not Thief
Thief 2014 is a complete detachment from the Thief franchise. Most familiar elements are gone, replaced by generic forgettable characters, a rambling nonsensical plot, and flawed stealth. This doesn't stop Thief being playable and occasinally entertaining as a standalone game. Were it divorced from the Thief IP, it might have stood shakily on its own feet. Want to know more? "Thi4f" game for the Modern Era
Was never a huge fan of the first 3 Thief games, but I thoroughly enjoyed the Dishonored series. And this is pretty much Dishonored with a heavier focus on the non-lethal/thieving aspect (no Sword/Dagger from the original 3 Thief games). Which, in my opinion, is completely fine, but I do miss having the option of lethal takedowns from time to time. As for the game itself, it is definitely not as bad as Thief purists will make it out to be (NOT 1-2 star worthy): - The story is kinda meh and forgettable, but I never cared much for story in the other games either. The ending is somewhat lackluster, but it does leave it open for the New World+ gameplay that happens afterwards. - Gameplay-wise, definitely an improvement in the amount of puzzles and mechanics available, and more interesting arrow types, as well as character upgrades. - Graphics-wise, it really is no contest. - Level-wise, the game has a better layout than previous games, but probably due to some engine/performance limitations, they sectioned off the maps into different zones, with no clear level transition indicators. -The replayability level is definitely higher than the predecessors, but most of that content is just level exploration for hidden treasures, and item collection definitely overstays its welcome in this game. => Overall, this game trades the "open-worldness" and freedom of the previous titles, for a more curated, polished, and linear experience. I believe the average Modern gamer will probably enjoy this game more than Thief 1-3, mostly because those older games have horribly outdated graphics and gameplay. I would definitely recommend this game first to a new player, and then if they are intrigued by the world/lore, then introduce the older games. As it stands, this game feels more like a slightly more stealth-focused Dishonored clone, rather than a more traditional "Thief" game, but it's not a bad game.
