A Witcher Story of Sublime Proportions

Magnificent! I can't think of any other word for it. While this expansion is dwarfed by the main game in terms of size and length, it more than meets (at times even exceeds) it in terms of substances and story. Hearts of Stone is essentially to the base game what Obsidian Entertainment's Mask of the Betrayer was to Neverwinter Nights 2. It's a shorter, albeit deeper and complex, story on a level with some of the best video game narratives ever written. The premise lies in the same kind of fairy tale deconstructive genre that the Witcher series is famous for. It begins with you accepting a monster contract from a shady, aristocratic warlord which, naturally, doesn't go as planned. Wouldn't you know it, there's more to this situation than meets the eye. Without going into too many spoilers, you find yourself roped into becoming a mediator between the warlord and a sinister, Satanic figure who made it deal with said warlord in the past and has come to collect on what is owed. Well, of course, this is a re-telling of the Faust legend. It re-examines this cautionary tale of hubris and faith from a modern standpoint while also giving players a chance to experience it firsthand and make their own judgements. Hearts of Stone is a thrilling, atmospheric ride that does what the Witcher series does best. It indulges long-time fans with a number of fun call-backs while still providing a story that will have you dying to know what will happen next. It's a real treat and one that should not be missed.

Stole my heart

This DLC is based on Mr Twardowski from Polish legends. While it's quickly clear what's going on and who the main antagonist is - at least for Polish audience - excellent dialogues, a lot of depth added and tons of humor make it an incredibly good, bittersweet adaptation of this tale in Witcher universe. The game features 4-5 fights which can be named boss fights. They are arguably more challenging than vanilla (on Death March) and take longer. Last fight actually forced my reflexes and proper use of combat mechanics, especially sidestep and maintaining "backstab" whirlwind. It came out that I was a complete noob before.

Superb.

The shorter expansion of The Witcher 3 is about quality over quantity. Thew highlight of this expansion is the story, which in my opinion is on par with the one in the main game though with better pacing being much shorter. The characters are very gray and interesting like we are used to in The Witcher universe, actually if there will be another The Witcher game, my bet is that Gaunter O'Dimm will be the main antagonist. The enchantments are a nice thing, though I find the Runewright to be much too expensive in order to make level 3 enchantments. There are really tough and unique boss fights in this expansion, which is great, also new monsters, which is always nice. The gear in this expansion is diverse and well-fit for a level 30-40 character. Overall: Superb This is how expansions should be done. Bravo CDPR!

Thinking of buying Hearts of Stone expansion for PS4 or XboxOne so I can get the Gwent decks. Anybody wanna trade the console version for the GOG version? Console version is #19.99 versus the GOG which is $8.99 :)
