Technically broken mess
CDPR should've left well enough alone with Witcher 3. It was a great RPG.. But with their latest hamfisted update they've technically broken the game. And even months of patching hasn't fixed it. First it tried to fry my GPU. Now it just outright crashes the drivers while showing some rainbow looking artifacts when ever I turn my screen. ( Not seen that with ANY other game in my 20+ years of gaming ) And given how I'm running some of the latest hardware this should NOT be happening. If it worked as advertised ( like it did before the 4.0 patch ) it would be a solid 9/10 - but as it doesn't work at all and I cannot play then it's literally 0 / 10. I don't care how good the gameplay is if I cannot actually play the game. And that they took a perfectly functional game and then broke it completely is beyond embaressing. I work in software development and you don't release something to the customer if it cannot pass even the most basic of QA. Like you might have some edge cases that you don't expect.. that's understandable and excusable. But if it tries to cook my GPU or crashes both Nvidia and AMD cards then I can only assume 0 QA was done at all. Or more likely there was a deadline and some bigwig thought "Nah it'll be fine.. I want my bonuses.." and greenlit it anyway. Either way shame on you CDPR.

It's absolutely terrible
This so-called "next-gen" update is absolutely atrocious. the changes are quite literally negligible and the new fancy-pants ray-tracing feature literally cuts your fps in more than half while providing basically no benefit. If you don't believe me, then check out before and after screenshots, do you think you'll be able to enjoy that puny "upgrade" to the visuals while you are zooming through the landscape on Roach? No, not really, right? Supposedly, the guys they initially got to work on this game basically finished upgrading the game and then cdpr took over and finished it, but what, exactly, did they finish? The "remaster" has the following mods incorporated into the game: The Witcher 3 HD Reworked Project by HalkHogan HD Monsters Reworked by Denroth Immersive Real-time Cutscenes by teiji25 Nitpicker's Patch by chuckcash World Map Fixes by Terg500 The game is almost indiscernible from the previous GOTY and the ray-tracing features cut the fps more than in half and the game looks like it's been straight-up downgraded in certain places. And speaking of down-grades, I think I speak for us all when I say that we all wanted the real next-gen version of this game, the E3 version. That's literally what I've spent more than TWO WHOLE YEARS HOPING FOR! But is that what we all ended up getting? No. What we ended up getting was yet another paltry "remake" just like all the other shitty remakes the companies have put out these last 6-7 years. Why do the devs continue doing this? They all know damn well what we want and yet, they almost never deliver. Why? Well, gents, when you figure that out, do tell me as well, eh? Because I sure do also want to know the answer to that question. Until next time, boiz. Caligero out.

Looks great, but has performance issues
It's a shame that CDPR ruined an all-time classic and one of the best games ever. The next-gen update looks really great and stunning, if I focus on the visuals only. It is obvious that the game has massive performance issues and bugs. I'm running it on a RTX 3080 and an Intel 12th gen, but framerates are really bad and unstable. Apart from that it has many bugs like flickering, pop ins and other strange artefacts. I'm wondering how the game developer does the testing. Do they have a QA department? They want to be a top studio but cannot manage to ensure good quality from a technical point of view. That's embarrassing. I would rather play another game until it's fixed. One remark regarding the new RTX 4000 cards: From what I've read so far: People claim that the game runs smoothly if you have an RTX 4000 and use DLSS3. To be honest, that makes no sense for me. The game uses the available GPU and CPU resources inefficiently. You can see that by the low cpu utilization. Even the GPU doesn't reach 100% utilization. It's a clear sign for me, that there is a CPU bootleneck. If you use frame generation, than you avoid that bootleneck. It's just the new trickery from NVidia and it doesn't mean that you need an 2000$-gpu to run the game smoothly.

Legendary Status
I've been a gamer all my life and was never really interested in RPG type games... I joined GOG in anticipation for Cyberpunk 2077 and bought the Witcher 3 on sale then later on I bought Witcher 1 and 2. I didn't bother giving any of the games a try until after finishing 2077... And hindsight tells me...why did I wait so long? I decided to try the first 2 games to get caught up on the story, I planned to play the first 15 minutes of the 1st two games to get an idea of the story. However, I ended up playing through both, being sucked in by the fun game-play and the story. After finishing Witcher 2, I discovered that I could import my saves into Witcher 3 and the choices I made would carry over into it, each game just got better and better! What more can I say about Witcher 3 that hasn't already been said? Glad I decided to jump into the shoes (boots? Armor?) of Geralt of Rivia. The story the DLC's (Blood and Wine is my Favorite). I can see now that is the true benefit of waiting so long to try this series I got the play the complete version of each game with all the DLC's and expansions attached. This has been an amazing introduction to the RPG genre for me. It is truly one of the best games I ever played, and still play. This review if for Witcher 3 but I have to mention Gwent: I was ensnared by the "game with in a game" Gwent card game while playing through Witcher 3, after finishing it I was amazed by the standalone Gwent game (a review for another time) The Books, the Games, the Shows, The Comics....I am completely captured by the Witcher world. I have played the 3 games, enjoying Gwent, playing through Thronebreaker, and plan to read the books, already bought some books in audio and readable versions. I admit this has kind of been a review of the entire franchise but hey... The Bar with this series has been set VERY high....Legendary Status!
