I just wanted to thank CD Projekt RED for making such a great game and renewing it with massive content without expecting additional payment. If you didnt play Witcher series, you are missing a lot! Both games has to be played if you really like this genre. I am proud of supporting you guys (got the steam version) and hope you will come up with many more great games like this one.
I loved The Witcher 2, even more than The Witcher 1. Graphics are gorgeous, combat system is AWESOME, storytelling and characters are epic and the first 2 chapters are really nice. The only big flaws I see with the game is that chapter 3 was clearly rushed and left "incomplete", not to mention how short it is: it almost feels like another game, really. The Witcher 2 EE is a true gem and I strongly recommend it to everyone in search for a really good game, but I believe it could have been even better if only the developement team spent more time on chapter 3. Maybe the publishers rushed it... who knows? A shame, though!
Still call Bioware the king? Be prepared, CD Projekt performed regicide.
The sequel to what was arguably the best RPG this generation, and it most certainly lives up to the reputation. Some still prefer the 1st to this, and vice versa, but neither are wrong. As it's just going back and forth about which masterpiece resonates more with them. And even if you didn't like the first, you might like this. Again CD Projekt delivers a mature game that is deep, engaging, and fun. With incredible writing and characters, and choice that matters. It doesn't handhold you by giving you a good dialog option (for good characters) and bad (for bad), it's not black and white. Which makes the decisions feel real, as you weigh your options and think about the effect of your choices. Not funneling you into a certain character archetype, and calling it freedom. Making the Mass Effect system that is gloated over by the masses feel amateur. As it blends the deep, moral ambiguous dialog system in the first game and the cinematic presentation of Mass Effect.
The combat despite being very action based is quite deep and challenging, requiring the use strategy. And it's all-around fun, never did I feel like an enemy encounter was interrupting, which is quite something for an RPG. The story is great, but might be a little hard to take in (with the immense lore and characters) if you haven't played the first game. And I'd also recommend the novels too. The soundtrack is great, though I did like the music in the first game, if only a bit, more. And now for the graphics, some of the best in gaming if your rig can handle it, end of story. I do feel I should bring up an issue a lot of people had, which is the final act. And while it does sorta come to a close pretty abruptly I wouldn't really say "rushed" and the Enhanced Edition does a good job of alleviating that issue.
Now to talk about gog, if you plan on getting this game, which I very highly recommend you do, gog is the way to go (at least when it comes to digital distribution). As it has loads of extras and is completely without that dreaded thing known as DRM. So download the game and appease the great Zoltan, as the only thing worse than a sad dwarf is a very sad dwarf.
The Witcher 2 is nothing short of a masterpiece in gaming history, one that I will never forget. The story is amazing, only leaving you wanting more and more at every turn. The characters are so well done and developed, that I actually began to develop feelings for them. The combat system has drastically improved from the first Witcher, now it's action oriented, yet still very challenging. The choices you make will truly affect your game, and more often than not, you have to chose the lesser of two evils. The world and atmosphere of the Witcher 2 is a very dark and gritty place, there isn't always a happy ending. The lore, and even what it means to be a Witcher is presented extremely well in this game, making you feel an outsider to all races at times. Last but no least, the soundtrack is badass, and adds even more feeling to the game. I highly recommend this game everyone, you buy now yes?
This game really felt like a let down. While the game progresses in much the same manner as the first one it's story isn't anywhere near as interesting. Gameplay is not as diverse, combat is different, but not really improved. The plot is simple, often confusing, and overall uninteresting. The game has some truly fun moments, but not enough to make you forget about its shortcomings. A beautiful game in its visuals with many interesting characters but weak overall writing fails to really make anything truly notable. The mini-games are a joke. I really don't see any reason for fist fights and arm wrestling to be in here, they are a waste of time as they are basic and uninspired mechanics. Dice is ok but still not interesting enough to really make it worth while. The potion system is a let down because you can't use a potion while in combat, you have to meditate before you can use one and they don't last very long. This makes them essentially worthless because it's difficult to set it up where of will be able to activate a potion before a combat. This game is fun and worth playing, but overall disappointing as it feels like a step backward for the series with it's weak story, some weak game mechanics, and some odd design choices.
