It feels great to play an RPG that doesn't feel like a mad lib. After years of playing almost exclusively Bioware RPGs, I blasted through The Witcher in a single weekend marathon because it was the first RPG in years that has truly felt innovative in its character and story writing, as well as its combat and gameplay mechanics. As I said, the story is fantastic and the characters are engrossing and not at all cardboard cutouts. Sapkowski's universe is done the best justice a developer could do. This game really is top notch. The flaws in the game include some awkwardly designed action sections, a few untimely boss fights and unskippable (but short, granted) cutscenes, and some glitchiness when it comes to moving around in combat. Still, these issues are mere surface damage to what is one of the better RPGs of the decade. It's right up there with Baldur's Gate 2. That said, the pro-est way to play the game is with Polish VAs and English subtitles. Awesome.

This is one great game and you have to play it. That is basically all you need to know, if you have the slightest interest in RPGs get this game now! The game has a good dark atmosphere mixed with a deal of humor. The story is nice and you feel like you have an impact because your choices in the game matter. Most of the major choices you make as a character will impact the game later on. This is made very obvious as the game points it out at several occasions. Action wise I focused mainly on sword fighting and did not really use signs that much. Sword fighting is very nice since you always have to make sure you are in the right stance at the right time. At harder difficulties you really need to use most of Geralts tricks in order to finish the game.

Witcher is a must play for any RPG fan. Not going to go into too much detail, but I have played many RPG games from the old dungeons and dragons gold box games, BG1 and BG2, all the way to Dragon Age: Origins and Mass Effect. This game stands up to all of those.

I hade this game on dvd. Got a new pc and pow, does not work with win 8. But GOG made it even better and made it work with win 8. What can I say? you are the greatest. I just love this game.

The Witcher will appeal to role playing game fans and hardcore gamers first thanks to its complex systems, but it tries to appeal to a broad audience of gamers by allowing the player to customize their experience in many ways. It's an RPG with with an action focused combat system, which is deep, rewarding and challenging without all number crunching found in other classic RPGs. It's fast paced and intense, but you can pause the game mid skirmish when things get a little too hectic. It's a dark fantasy story heavy on the sexy and the gory. There's magic and alchemy too, both of which you'll have to master if you want to get through this very long and epic adventure. The music is great, the game is very detailed, the art direction is spot on, the gameplay is rewarding and challenging, the adventure is long, the story is great and mature, you get to choose your own adventure through the decisions you make throughout the game (including sleeping with the plenty of women who may have you... or not) and best of all, it's DRM free. GOG's packed this one with excellent extras. If you like RPGs then you need to do yourself a favor and spend the $10 already.
