I have no clue who the absolute idiot it was that thought this game was a good idea but I hope they are at least unemployed. They took a really fun game concept and made it the most ret@rded experience on the planet. You have to micromanage every single aspect and for no expainable reason your transporters just stop moving weapons from the manufacturer to the barracks. No weapons no troops. No matter how many transporters you make THEY JUST STOP TRANSPORTING WEAPONS. Plenty of gold, space, population, etc. but nope, they just stop transporting them for no reason. This game is nothing but a frustration generator. It sucks!!!
I cannot understand why other players insist that the game doesn't work on Windows 10. They're blatantly wrong! All they have to do is start The Settlers 4: Gold Edition via the GOG GALAXY 2.0. It's that simple. On top of that, the game looks very crisp on my Dell Vostro 3501, with no graphical or sound issues. On the contrary, it runs incredibly smoothly, just as expected on a modern rig.
As to the game itself, personally, I'm so bored, angry, and frustrated at the modern computer and console games, where everything in-game item or extra experience is locked behind DLCs, or revolves around leaderboards and stupid, meaningless achievements. So, I decided to purchase this RTS instead. One of the games that sparked my interest back in the day but never had the chance to play it.
Vibrant and colorful graphics, an incredible music score full of charm and magic, and a complex, deep resource management system constitute The Settlers IV: Gold Edition is a must-buy for fans of old-time classics and great strategy games. I'm planning to play this one for a long, long time. Besides, due to working many hours, I don't have time to worry about perfectionism or achievements. I just want to lay a bit back, take in the gorgeous environments, be a little creative, and ultimately settle in (pun intended).
As a friendly tip, try to go through the tutorials before starting the campaign, as the sheer amount of building mechanisms may overwhelm players not familiar with this genre.
The scenarios without the 'Dark Tribe ' are generally good, but, they are a minority.
Most of the game is against the Dark tribe, and is mindnumbingly boring.
Creating and micro-managing hundreds of gardeners that seem to have a suicide wish is not my idea of fun.
Have tried playing this game since purchasing and it plays for a while but randomly crashes with a fatal error. Tried fixes noted on forums and YouTube but they don’t fix the code crash. GOG should not be selling this as it does not work.
