Graphically stunning
Pushes my PC very hard, in a good way, for smooth 144hz. The graphics are really nice, I haven't played an RTS game in a long time, nor are they my kind of game, but the controls feel great. WASD and mouse aiming, something most devs refuse to do for some reason. The demo is pretty short, (not sure if that's because I died but I'm pretty sure it's designed to overrun you on purpose to be extra dramatic, it works), but the main flaws are the lack of mouseover tooltips and information overload. I had several buildings have a lightning bolt symbol on them but I have no idea what that means. Did I not have power? But I have power connectors to my power plant, what's the problem? I have no idea. There are several hotkeys for combat but what do they mean? Mouseover shows nothing, just hit them and guessed what they do. Overall I was pretty impressed with the presentation. A lot of games are still only optimized for 60fps, this clearly has optimizations with high end monitors/systems in mind. Menu screen is 30fps to reduce power, in game I don't think I went below 120fps. In contrast, I don't think I can get over 100fps in a newer retro shooter, and often dip below 60fps despite it's low end graphics, it's just not pushing my system at all. Looking forward to the full release.
