base building with loads of upgrades to unlock for the base and mech suit you control with the wasd keys. good variety of biomes and enemy types this game is awsome. Late game you have to fend off massive hordes of enemies and it is amazing slaughtering them with the overpowered mech suit.
the games soundtrack could have been better but it was ok, also there is some slowdown when the game auto saves
At first glance, the game is very reminiscent of Factorio. Build and defend your base, create resources, conduct research.
However, you only have to mine the resources and they are then available everywhere. Instead, you have to open rifts to other planets to get certain resources there, and then build your outposts there. It's a bit like Anno.
Unfortunately, they didn't manage to achieve anywhere near the depth of Factorio.
For one thing, you have no idea what advantages many of the buildings have. For example: electricity comes from solar and wind, so why go to the trouble of mining plants to generate energy?
A lot of things are only half-explained. Example: yes, there is a building with which I can jump to other planets: but where is the information that I can open the menu with y in the mech to jump back again?
Unfortunately, research is also not linked to anything: I can wildly research new weapons, but there is no indication of where I can get the necessary resources.
Many convenient functions are missing: I have to laboriously determine a research sequence, but then I can't even prioritize something when I unlock it. I have to click on walls of a higher level individually to upgrade them; if the cursor jumps next to them, something else may be upgraded that takes away rare resources. - and so on.
On top of that, the story is hard to bear and often only gives you objectives as occupational therapy.
In addition, "nests" are spawned that cause strong regular attacks, and every 30 seconds you are annoyed to dig out the nest with the mech. If you do this, a new one spawns somewhere a few minutes later, and the annoyance starts all over again.
My conclusion: good ideas from other games have been reassembled, but without a plan for how to create a well-rounded game. The fun of building a base is constantly spoiled by inadequacies. Gives the impression of an early access title that has been abandoned.
DLCs are more expensive on GOG than on Steam (at least in Poland).
Check prices between these two platforms in your country if you plan to buy DLCs for this game.
Crash Crash Crash. Not so much in the beginning but about mid game it became unplayable. When not crashing I'd give it 3/5 stars. It's close to being a good game but falls short. You can not focus on base building due to the constant barage of attacks. But you need to focus on base building because the stupid buildings are near impossible to make work. Despite the frustration of getting the base in order, I was enjoying the game OK until the crashing started. I was not able to finish the campaign.
Just the game is awesome, the combat is gorgeus, the controls are calibrated and the sound is amazing, not to mention the lightning, it´s very immersive.
The only complain that I have is the lack of advices about a loot of fine important details, for example, how many power consumption you may need if you install one or another base machine, or what wuld happend if you spend research point in things that are not YET in the next prologue step. I am stuck again in prologue because of this. Well after 5 or 6 hours of gameplay I think I should pass the prologue but is not the case. Not yet.
But don´t get me wrlong, I like it, I´ll try again until I made it, (Or they improbe their own tutorial, what happend first) The core mechanics are amazing, I likethem a lot, and the momentum while playing is nice.
For the price, this is a Gem!
P. S. For a game with such special mechancs like this, I need to suggest the campaign of Northgard, wich has such a stgrange game mechanics, but the tutorial in the campaign guides you throug every core key aspect of the game that, when you finish the campaing, You know everything about how to play. The rest is ist improbe your gameplay, pick your favorite clan and that´s it. Something like thats it´s what this game really, really needs.
