Obsidian is decent when you give them a Franchise and an Engine and do all the leg work for them. They are terrible when it comes to being creative and this is no different. Outer worlds isn't the worst but it's the hardest 5 out of 10 in gaming history. This game is so incredibly average and mediocre there is no need to ever play this game. It provides some humor but that's about all it does right. The atmosphere, graphics, combat. level design, quest, characters, story are all painfully forgettable.
It's very difficult to pick things up (and there are a TON of things to pick up),
Autorun is run only.
In Battle, on second you are fine, the next you are dead far too often. I finally set the difficulty to story to stop this.
Watching talking heads and answering them, running around picking stuff up, and reading computer terminals seems to be about 70% of the game.
All that said, I did mostly enjoy the hours I spent running through it.
No clue on the DLC as I doubt I'll put more money into this game.
I really enjoyed the story, it's definitely got a lot of the vibe of a fallout game but it feels very different to play. the weapons and armour sets are very cool and the companions were fantastic although i mostly stuck with the first two. there is lots to do and explore, stealth felt fun. and the worlds look great. The dlcs were really fun and i particularly loved murder on eridanos although i'm glad that i played eridanos after peril over gorgon. started playing regular version of the game then moved saves to spacers choice version. definitely go with the spacers choice version as performance is significantly better with fsr while still looking great.
some stuff will hopefully be improved in outer worlds 2 though
- not a fan of the save/sleep/fast travel restrictions of supernova, would love it otherwise
- I'd like to see more variety in the enemies, more species etc.
- the item info popups in your inventory are very annoying and make it hard to see what you're doing when managing inventory as half the items are always covered.
- no item sorting options for personal container? they have it in normal inventory and when trading so odd that it's not there
- messing with loads of items in inventory at one time and between companions caused some weird bugs for me (rarely companions would randomly equip a different outfit or weapon when you equip something on another companion) and armor values being wrong when upgrading which was more common)
- fast travelling to a location with an active quest is annoying as it always wants to show you what quest is there not select where you want to go even if you zoom the map in all the way
I walked into an empty alley, which later turned out to be part of a quest. After taking the quest, the empty alley is now full of goons for me to kill. Feels like the world just revolves around you, nothing feels organic or particularly immersive.
It's like playing cyberpunk but really small and really bad.
The companions are alright.
If you expect the vast open world of New vegas but in space you will prolly be disapointed , you can surely roam around a bit , but that is just it , a bit and do not expect to find elaborate huge story quest in the middle of nowhere or some weapon that is extra special to make you go "WOW".
It is a very good game that I enjoyed but it is lacking in a few areas : the weapons are underwhelming , no real variety , the perk system is meeeh , the story is OK but not anything special.
I did like the charachters but would be better with a romance option and a bit more depth to them.
The first part of the game are the best, it seems a bit cramped later on , it seems that the devs run out of time and/or money and had to push it out.
Neverthe less a game that is fun and enjoyable.
