Halligan is the best adventure protag
Spoilers: In this game you play as detective Halligan and he's an absolute goblin of a character. Despite the pedigree of working for Scotland Yard as a detective, before the game even starts your character has a reputation for never returning borrowed office supplies, spends his time reading UFO conspiracy books , apparently has a several hundred pound pizza tab, and racked up so many international phone call charges that he is banned from making outbound calls by his boss. While adventure game protags generally are clueless jerks or underhanded rogues Halligan takes this trope even further by knowingly commiting multiple and rather severe crimes throughout the game, such as stealing crime scene evidence, poisoning a homeless man, desecrating a burial with a magical IED, stealing from a library, framing an innocent bystander for the crime of theft, cannibalism, and he even goes as far as murdering a bystander in order to exploit a loophole in a magical agreement he entered.
