When you're fully geared up and The Messenger is hitting you with brand new stages and challenges that you haven't seen before, The Messenger is an amazing, must-play experience. Taken as a whole, it's brought down only by fetch quests that make The Messenger last several hours longer than it feels like it should.

Great Retro Platformer

If you like retro games, pixel art, chiptunes and difficult platformers, then this is an excellent game for you. Checkpoints are placed a reasonable distance from one another, so you won't have to replay entire levels dozens of times to make it through the game, removing much of the frustration from the original Ninja Gaiden titles. One minor complaint - it doesn't tell you the keyboard controls in the beginning and doesn't have a menu option to rebind keys. I had to tap around to figure out that spacebar = A-button and leftAlt = B-button in the main menu. MouseClick = Sword swing in game, WASD to walk around and Spacebar to jump. The game does tell you about further controls later on. Other than that, The Messenger is a near-perfect retro platformer.

It takes you to a roller coaster of nostalgia, I've always enjoyed games in those Metroidvania style I dare say that he is the best in my humble opinion, he undoubtedly ranked 1st in my list of Metroidvania's best, can buy without fear. The part of soundtrack, stage, and boss including the character itself are very captivating, the boss neither come they have personalities and are super charismatic.

Masterwork

The Messenger is an amazing piece of art. It's a perfect plateformer, with a nice dosed difficulty and great visuals. Haven't had so much pleasure playing a plateformer for a long time, buy it if you want a great game.

Just kept finding more depth

From the first moment I started playing, it was just so fun to play. Even when the game become incredibly challenging for me (you may not find it as difficult but I found some of the rooms very very difficult) I wanted to keep playing. About 40% of my way through the game I thought it was finished -- then it added a new mechanic and suddenly there was so much more to do. Then it added something else and there was more to do. Every time something new was added the game was enriched -- rather than feeling like filler to pad the gameplay, it just made it a more profound experience.
