Do you remember watching with amazement when those cartoon heroes constructed machines to catch someone or start something?

Or did you ever wonder how it would feel to construct a mouse-powered device to cook some eggs and launch a rocket?
Well, the answer is here!
Build monkey or mouse-powered machines, use lasers and fire fireworks, start fires using a bowling ball and flint, throw things with anti gravity platforms or a jack-in-the-box or crack open an aquarium with a cat, mouse, alligator, cannon, cheese and more!
I know the game mostly from 3D Ultra Minigolf by Sierra (both demo and full game).
So I discovered the serie very lately, but I got to say it's still amazing and doesn't age at all !
I decided to make my 5y old niece play the game, and she totally love it ! Unlike Tetris or Lemmings, you don't
need skill, and have all the time you need to play ! Punching balls, make mouse runs... very funny & educative !
This is one of my favorite puzzle games ever. It's incredibly addictive, at the end of each puzzle you will convince yourself that you are going to play just one more, but you're lying to yourself. I can't even begin to describe how cool some of the Rube Goldberg style machines are that you have to solve, and once you're done with all of them (and there is A LOT of content here), you can make anything you can think of using all the parts in the multiple games included in the pack. $10 is a ridiculous value for the amount of fun you will have, and it is perfect for laptops and older computers.
The Incredible Machine Mega Pack is not just an incredible game. It's also a machine game. And a mega pack one too. It has all sorts of The Incredible Machines games in it, including The Incredible Machine! Also it has incredible things, like machines and packs. Oops, mega packs. And not only that, but it features machinery things, like incredibles and mega packs too. What else could I say about, other than that this one is a incredible machinery mega-packing game. Amazing!
Okey, seriously speaking now, this is a not only an amazingly cheap pack with 4 games, as that these games are GREAT games. The Incredible Machine series is based on the Rube Goldberg contraptions, featuring puzzles with a lot of wacky objects and objectives. Expect to see all kinds of balls, hamsters, trampolines, lamps, gears, ropes, cats, mice, candles, fans, etc. Yes, all this (and much more!) into one crazy puzzle. Each of those games offers hundreds of puzzles, and also a level editor, making it easy for you to create your own puzzles, making your own objectives, defining things like gravity and much more.
Overall, if you like puzzle games, this is one of the best out there. There's no better collection of puzzle games out there, specially for this price. This thing will keep you occupied for years, since it offers LOTS and LOTS of puzzles, with difficulty ranging from very easy to insane ones. Also, it's really easy to lose track of time while you try to create a contraption just to see how cool it can be. What are you waiting for, get this now!
I still have the disk for 3.0 right here in my desk. I've been playing these game since 1995, however it's been about 8 years since I last played it so I decided to get the whole package here on gog. And man, the puzzles are so memorable I actually remember how to do most of the ones in the base game, so the expansions I am totally grateful for.
What makes these puzzlers so awesome? I think it lies heavily on their intuitiveness and the way they slowly introduce the diverse range of objects in the puzzles. It's all about contraptions, but the diverse range of parts makes for a variety of brainteasers. My favorites of course are the puzzles that require you to blow up the environment, followed by puzzles involving ropes and pulleys since I find them to be the most challenging.
As I mentioned earlier since it introduces the parts a little bit at a time so I was never overwhelmed. And like the recent game Portal certain patterns deliberately repeat so you can build up skill sets for each element in the game, so when you come across the later contraptions that make us of all the parts you won't need anymore hints.
The editor needs mentioning as well. It's extremely intuitive and easy to use. You can easily set up a clever puzzle in a few minutes if you have it mapped out in your head. You can even go crazy with background art using a huge selection of sprites. I went pretty nuts with it when I was 13.
Oh and how could I forget the music? The songs are so catchy they'll be stuck in your head for years! I personally love the diverse soundtrack, even the country songs! I enjoy the original midi tracks very much, but the later games with live studio versions with added vocals were absolutely fantastic. The notes were exactly the same, but the extra fidelity and the human played instruments added depth to the soundtrack. During the game these tunes really add to the experience!
I've had these games for 15 or 16 years now and I keep coming back to them because I have yet to find a superior puzzler. You could say these games are casual since there's no clock to race against or bad guys trying to kill you, but the point is not to get a high score or to "win". The objective of the game is to push your brain to its limit, and that is a great challenge any hardcore gamer like myself should accept.
The game is quite old, so don't expect flashy animations, smooth controls or whatever.
Nonetheless, it stands the test of time quite well and it's still better many other "modern" games you can find in the market nowadays.
