Weirdly great indie candy

The Count Lucanor is a short indie game of exploration and puzzles with a simple but cool stealth gameplay and a weirdly interesting setting and set of characters. The story and the general atmosphere of the game were very cool and got me hooked to it, and it even has different endings which is nice. Overall it was easy for me to finish the game, but it is ok since the movement is slow and repeating sections of the game can get a bit annoying. A simple but fun exploration+puzzle+stealth game, with weird and cool atmosphere and a short duration, I truly recommend this as a little indie candy, which I enjoyed a lot. In fact after playing The Count Lucanor I am convinced to buy Yuppie Psycho soon, the next game from the developers, which seems to keep the gameplay and weirdness but polish the game and extend the length and scope of the game.

Short Fun Pixel Adventure

Note: This version seems to be a lot more stable and bug free than the console versions. A fairly short adventure puzzler with some mild stealth and horror/blood themes. Despite the 17+ rating - it really isn't. The horror and grotesque are pretty mild and due to the pixel nature kinda self censoring. Teen should be fine. Main draw would be its pixel art and sense of adventure. There's a number of missable events and endings but still fairly short and compact. Short enough that you prob want to wait for a sale. Some concerns- It uses RE-style "tape saves" that are limited. I didn't mind too much but did lose some progress multiple times because I didn't save enough. The player is somewhat slow/sluggish. Esp. in the prologue area that is probably a bit too big. Monsters tend to be more annoying than challenging. There's still some bugs - and because of the limited save, can be even more frustrating. I've been stuck on some furniture and NPCs a few times.

Brothers Grim, eat your hearts out!

This is an amazing game. The atmosphere is well developed and you aren't restricted by a stern linear path. You are free to go where you will, and that's half the fun: seeing what is possible. I feel the developers did a great job sticking to their ideals of what this game should be, and it paid off big time. The cast of characters is perfect, and the over-use of gore fits the feel of the dark and dreary theme, but doesn't overshadow the lightheartedness of the fairy-tale aspect the game shoots for. The music is perfect for the game, and the sound effects are great as well. (Wear headphones and hear the footsteps in the darkness cross slowly from one ear to the other, and peel your eyes for who exactly may be lurking just out of site... Hear the cries of ghastly creatures roaming in the darkness seeking a snack... Hear the whispers of the Count's servants as they wander the corridors) The controls are simple and easy. The only complain I had is that I was unsure how exactly to eat food that I had in my inventory. You have to go to your inventory, highlight the food, PRESS DOWN and select the "eat" option. Don't know why but there was no mention of pressing down in the tutorial so it was a bit confusing. Other than that it was a solid game. I have read complaints about it having practically no replay value, and that's just not true. I just viewed one of the 5 possible endings, and I'm ready to go right back to it and figure out what I can do differently. Playing The Count Lucanor is the video game world equivalent of curling up on a chair and reading a good book on a rainy day. Get this game. You will not regret it.

Beautiful but annoying

Fantastic pixelly horror/ fairytale experience, with somewhat frustrating gameplay. Story, graphics, and audio is well-crafted and beautiful, lending to an ambience that is exciting and even somewhat scary. The game has great character with an interesting world and dialogue. Controls are a bit annoying, and the pace a bit sluggish. The slow walking speed can be really grating. Game is rather short, just a few hours. Decent replay value with a few different endings. Uses terrible save-tokens like original Resident Evil. The actual puzzles and challenges are, well... They´re not for me. Which of course doesn´t mean that there´s anything objectively wrong with them. I feel like a vegetarian trying to review a steak here. Slowly walk away from creepy monsters and hide under tables, while pushing blocks and pulling levers; that´s about it. Lots of trial and error. All in all, I find it entirely worth checking out. It´s a beautiful little game in its own right, but in my opinion winning more through world-building and mood than actual gameplay.

Well crafted bit of fun

Love the attention to detail in this short well-made horror adventure indie game. Well worth the price of a coffee. Sometimes I check the Steam forum artwork page to see how much art a game inspires. This little gem has garnered more contributions than much bigger games. Treasure hunter says, boo!
