The Black Within is a single-player first-person psychological horror. When selling her soul for fame and fortune, Laila Rose faces the consequences of her actions. A tale of Greed, fear, and change.


The year is 2007, you play as Laila Rose, a failed musician who decided to sell her soul to the devil for fame and wealth. Laila, 38 years old, has tried to make it in the music industry, but a lack of talent and patience led Laila to take matters into her own hands and contact a well-known record label manager called Arne Cheyenne.

with the instruction of her new boss, Arne. Laila goes into the abyss and starts her journey, searching for fame and glory. But like the old saying goes, every action has an equal and opposite reaction. What Laila fails to realize is that her battle is bigger than signing a piece of paper; it's fear vs change and pain vs hope.

Horror escape room

Puzzles are on easy-medium scale. Reasonably priced. Audio and graphics are pretty good, it's not obvious from dark screenshots. No major bugs encountered. Minor issues: - Jumpscares are well placed, but devs please don't rip my ears apart. - Hotspots are small to hit on gamepad (Xbox controller is mostly supported, just not on menus and button icons). Zooming helps but mostly it should not be necessary. - Story could have been more involving, the guy on the phone is mostly absent. The ending was not expected, but underwhelming. This does not need a sequel, but overall, I was not disappointed. Better than many other indie horror games I've played.

Guess I had a diferent experience!

I bought the game since the premise seemed good and reviews were positive. First, kudos for the Dev for making this game, his debut, and for making the game fully voiced, but... I'm sorry for being so blunt. There is nothing here. No atmosphere, no story (at least no story to be remembered or awed), no horror besides jump scares, no gameplay, no puzzles (grab item > use there). Also, you can finish it under 1h, you have no time to get engaged either with the plot or with characters/world.

For under a buck...

...I can't complain. However, in these indie first person horror games, why does it always feel like the run button only makes you walk a little faster?

Gamejam title

Feels like a gamejam title someone put a bit of extra effort into. I would ignore any 5-star reviews coming from users with 0 owned games and no activity. A too common sight on small just released indie titles.

Not bad for under a dollar

Nice short game. Graphics are great for under a buck. A few good jump scares. Not much replay value but for cents you can't beat an hour or so of fun. Much better purchase than "The Deep Inside." The Black Within ran very well on my setup. CPU: i7-9700k GPU: Nvidia RTX 2060 super
