You play as the titular Bard, a roguish, manipulative and lewd songster whose priorities in life are the acquisition of material wealth and carnal pleasures. The Bard's pretty sarcastic by nature, but you get to decide just how scathing he is by selecting 'Nice' or 'Sarky' responses. Watch out you don't get too cocky though; folk you've upset may come back to haunt you.
During his raucous adventures, the Bard recruits a motley band of eccentrics and misfits to help in his ignoble cause. Enemies can be defeated using traditional or magical weapons and you can also use the Bard's dulcet tones to summon creatures. If you're tired of saving humankind or bored of games that take themselves a bit too seriously, The Bard's Tale could very well be for you.

Its fun to play this
At last it was fun on the PS2. I never played the PC version. Why do i remember playing this game? Its not because of his epic story. Or its fantastic RPG fighting system, or the graphics.... First there is this narrator. Its one of the best. Than the fact that every character in this game is a snarky bast*** You missed one of the funniest games ever if you haven't played this one. For the original 3 (real RPG's). They are classics. But i wouldn't play them again....the game is so outdated it hurts

Getting This for the 3 Original Games
I've not played the latest version of this.. But I am buying this purely for the 3 original games.. I've played The Bards Tale one on Atari ST, Commodore 64, Spectrum and Amiga.. absolutely loved it.. 2 I had on the Amiga and C64, along with 3, but that was also on my 1st PC (remember the Amstrad luggable anyone the PPC640DD?). These games for me, set various standards, OK they may have taken ideas from the SSI games.. but they also innovated.. Great times I had, and Great times I shall have again.. Time to get pencil and paper out to draw them damn dungeon maps.... :-)

Bad
Although the writing and tavern songs are great, the rest of this game is truly awful. I have no idea why they bothered to make a remaster.

Loved The Bard's Tale
Heyyo, This is a great RPG. The classics are also really fun I remember those back in computer class my bud's would fire them up for fun lol. inXile Entertainment have made a lot of great games in the past and this is definitely one of them. The combat system takes a bit of getting used to but it works well, even on the iOS version of this game. The way the summons work, the winter environments sapping your life and the humor is well done. Tony Jay as the Narrator is my favorite part since he has one of the most interesting voices I've ever heard.. and WHO DOESN'T LOVE HIS WORK IN TALESPIN THE TV SHOW!? :)
