Tex Murphy: Under a Killing Moon

I would give this game five stars if it weren't for two things. The first thing is that this game, having been released in the 1990's, has 1990's movement controls. Moving the mouse forward or backward to move in that direction gives me a headache. However, it's not a major part of the game. It does come into play with the second thing, though. Sometimes it is hard to see small objects in the world due to how the environment is rendered. At a specific angle, an object may only be one pixel tall. Looking for small, hard-to-see objects with awkward movement controls frustrated me a couple of times. After these things, everything else is amazing. The acting is perfectly bad, the story is confusing and outlandish, and the music is cheesy and catchy. This game is dated in the best possible way. If you find yourself stuck, the hint system is extensive. Extensive enough to the point where you don't really need to think much if you don't want to.

They really don't make 'em like this any more.

Oh how I loved when FMV became a thing!

Like most I came here in pursuit of this game.It was from fond memories of the past that this stuck with me over the years.Could this be as good as I truly remembered?.....It sure was. Easy to control menus,submersive very playable competent 3D interaction and acting from Charles Jones (Tex) that made you wonder why he didn't have a established Hollywood acting movie career... If you have ever played games like 'The Ripper' and '11th hour' you'll already have a feel for this which surpasses both in the fun and entertainment department.If you like these movie stylegame hybrids you can't go wrong with this.I just wish they're were alot more availiable now....hint hint...With the digital download market growing on the PC and Wii etc ,episodes of this and that appearing and, with this standard of script Tex Murphy could have a nice little niche to soon acquire alittle of that dough that had always alluded him under that killing moon.....

I've been waiting so long to be able to play this great game again! This is the game that introduced me to the adventure game genre. Until then, I didn't really like VG's as they were mostly shooters, which I've never been very good at or interested in. UAKM has a great story and engaging characters. One of the things that I've never quite found again in the Adventure genre is the multiple responses during interactions with other characters. Also, the responses that don't spell out exactly what you're going to say, it's much more fun and surprising, that way. It was one of the things that hooked me on Tex in the first place! I also love that Tex has something to say about almost every object in the game.
