Quite pretty, but infuriating

Maybe it wasn't such a hot idea playing this right after The Swapper. I was hoping for a puzzler with platforming elements, but instead, this is a HARDCORE platformer, with simple puzzles thrown in. That's not really a bad thing, just something to be clear about. The game itself is all about precision jumping, like any oldschool platformer, but the enjoyment factor is brought down by two big issues: Insane difficulty "curve", and floaty controls. The game shows no mercy, it doesn't give you any time to warm up, it throws you against nearly impossible odds very fast. Which would be easier to overcome, if the controls didn't feel kind of "off". I cannot describe better, that most of my gameplay consisted of me, furiously tapping the direction keys back and forth do make those jumps perfect ('case if they're not, you'll die). Yes, I play with the keyboard, I managed to finish the latest Rayman games with it, and had no problems at all. I heard, it might be better with a gamepad, but I'm not sure I'll get one just for this. To be honest, I often get back for more beating, when a game's as difficult as this, but at one (presumably early) point, I just decided to give it a longer rest. Probably wont finish it anytime soon. But it looks nice, I have to give it that.

Decent puzzles, frustrating bosses

Like many of the other reviewers, I was drawn to Teslagrad by the interesting physics puzzles. I love Portal, The Swapper, and many other similar puzzle games, so I was excited for this one. The puzzles weren't bad, although I found myself dying more to floaty controls than not knowing what I needed to do. Especially frustrating were a few sections that you couldn't survive without playing them repeatedly, so you just needed to retry until you memorized the pattern and executed flawlessly. (Looking at you, floating up to the top of the castle through a laser grid.) The most frustrating part of the experience was definitely the boss fights. Most of them consisted of 90% boring mechanics, then one difficult-to-dodge instakill about 2 minutes in. If you get it, the boss fights are easy. If you don't, you've just wasted 2 minutes of your time. I wanted to love this game. The art style is great, the music is solid, the mechanics are clever. I beat it, but I feel pretty unsatisfied because of how obnoxious the final boss was. Play it if you love difficult platformers, but not if you love puzzle games. (Although I love Mega Man and Shovel Knight, so maybe that's not quite right either.)

Great game

A great puzzle-plattformer. The elecricity (and other capabilities) makes for interesting puzzles, and it's interesting to explore the levels. When it comes to graphics and sound it's all good. Charming and functional! The controls are nice, even though I'm having some problems with my controller (XBOX360). I haven't looked too much into this yet, though. Extra credits to the boss fights.

Unique and imaginative!

Very nice game! Lots of puzzles and different bosses to defeat. Unique gameplay. The plot unravels in a thaetrical way together with the collection of cards(did't manage to collect them all though). Very nice graphics accompanied with atmospheric music that captures your imagination. The only reason i gave it a 4star is because with the keyboard the gameplay is rather difficult. Overall a very nice game and about 12 hours of gameplay!

Difficulty beyond enjoyment

This game has very nice visual style and game mechanics premises, however, the way the latter is executed leave a lot of frustration. The level of timing and precision needed to pass certain sections is unreasonably high making succeeding through them rather a result of luck and evoking nothing but relief when it's done. Boss battles are not as much difficult as they are unfair. As most of them go through multiple stages with no in-between checkpoints. but with distinct behaviour patterns for each, games makes you die and replay them from the start a lot just because you didn't know of the next stage specifics in advance. The most irritating part happened when I completed 90% of the game just to learn that I cannot proceed to the main boss because I haven't picked up enough collectables which appeared as optional and where nothing hinted their crucial role in the game progress. Essentially, the game forced you to backtrack and roam around the complete areas just because it wanted you to. I see no way how this was supposed to increase a player's enjoyment with the gaming process. There are zero adjustments to how relaxing you want your gaming experience to be. Alas, the abundance of frustrating parts cancels out the positive emotions of progression and exploration.
