Hold off on buying for now, this isn't updated to 1.3.0.2 yet. You will not be able to play multiplayer as a result.
GoG really screwed the pooch with this one.
*1 Star review is NOT for game*
I bought this game on sale so receiving my money back has no significant importance to me.
What I do find important however is the amount of response or help you get when you reach out to GOG for help or refund which so far is nothing except an automated message emailed to you confirming your inquiry with an assigned ticket number.
I tried to install on his computer a "Windows 7" as well as on my computer a "Windows 8" with the same results. I used the Terraria help section trying to solve the problem. I followed multiple steps and produced the same results.
***This 1 Star review is not for the game itself but for GOG's response time or lack of response at all to concerns of their customers.*** I would have loved to receive some help in getting the game to work as I wanted to purchase 2 extra copies for my other younger brother and myself.
I was literally put in a game that explains pretty much nothing and I had to explore and understand everything on my own, it lasted 4 hours in game until I uninstalled it. I don't understand why this game is so high rated. There are a lot of things to do, it seems, but pretty much nothing is explained and I was tired doing things I don't understand with no ending and no reason. It is not a bad game but it clearly is not a good game. I didn't understand this game, it seems a lot of people did, so I'm not lucky or maybe I'm not patient or curious enough to play endlessly to understand anything about this game... I don't plan on playing it again. I rate it 3 stars because it seems I'm not the kind of person to appreciate it correctly, my own experience isn't similar to the experiences of a lot of people, but if it was a game ready to be appreciated I would have appreciated it, so... 3 stars. Based on my own experience and the fact so many people rated it 5 stars... which I consider highly overrated, based on my own experience.
Game used to be a 4/5 up until the latest update (1.4). Over it's 9 year lifecycle, the game style has started shifting away from the micro-Metroidvania, gear progression and exploring a world and changed into a very narrow, twitch based don't-get-hit gameplay loop with bosses that feel like they would fit better in Super Meat Boy or Binding of Isaac.
It started with a horde mode event that spammed so many enemies and particles at you that it was difficult to even see what's going on and it just kind of progressed from there.
Add to that the horrible RNG mechanic that was attached past a certain update and I'm surprised why I even played it for so long.
The latest update just showed the developers true colors, when he decided that people are playing his precious little game "wrong". He does that after the game is out for almost 10 years and after he has given control to the game to someone else.
